Oh look, 22 yards BSing again
It's unfortunate that you don't understand the term "mass shooting".

2014 hostage situation in Sydney -- 3 killed, including the shooter, Man Monis (who actually killed only one of the hostages; one was killed accidentally by shrapnel from police fire, and Monis was shot by the police). In any case, the siege was defined as an act of terrorism*
2014 Hunt family murders -- murder-suicide
2005 Oakhampton Heights Shooting -- murder-suicide
2002 Monash University shooting -- 2 killed

When attempting to argue a point, it really helps to know what you're arguing about.

So, you're wrong, again. And you still can't refute the clear evidence that the firearm control legislation in Australia has significantly reduced gun deaths (and mass killings by firearm).

*And the shotgun and cartridges used by Monis all pre-dated the 1996 firearms legislation.

So a bloke walking into a university classroom with six guns and shooting indiscriminately isn’t a mass shooting. Thanks for clearing that up.

Question for you Loz,...

Whilst South Africa has extremely high rates of gun related crime, casualties and fatalities, why does it have only a tiny fraction of the mass shootings seen in the US?

So the absence of culture makes a country more likely to have mass shootings. Works for me.

No culture allowed in North Korea - no mass shootings either so you may have a point.

Yes, you're right. Sorry.

Actually, North Korea has no guns in private ownership - and no mass shootings either.

You really shouldn't be debating a subject you know nothing about. "Mass shooting" (actually, it should be "mass killing by firearm", but that'll never catch on) has a specific definition—usually, four or more killed, and excluding murder-suicides—so you're correct, the Monash Uni shooting was not a "mass shooting". Nor was any shooting in Australia during the study period post-gun legislation.

But feel free to clutch at straws and cry "what about other stuff, because". You're just plain wrong. Again.

Gilroy, near San Jose, CA, USA; three dead, 15 injured, according to current reports.

The gunman cut through a perimeter fence to shoot people at a garlic festival. Yay guns.

Re: A shooting just happened in ( *fill in the blank * )

Shooting in France too.

"Three people were killed and one injured on Sunday evening during a shooting in Ollioules, in the south of France. The origin of the shooting exchanges was not yet known at the end of the evening, it was learned from a source close to the case.

One of the deceased was a woman scooter driver, who appeared to be a collateral victim, it was also reported from the same source, confirming the initial information provided by the regional daily Var Matin.

Neither the number of shooters nor the type of weapons used were yet known on Sunday evening. The investigation into the shooting, which took place at around 8.30 p.m., was entrusted to the judicial police.

"These young people who have fallen under bullets are known very unfavourably by the municipal police services," said the mayor of the municipality of Ollioules. These were reportedly the first two victims of the shooting, of which they were allegedly the target.

Two victims

In a statement on the municipality's Facebook site, the mayor addressed his thoughts to "the two innocent victims (...) and their families". According to Var Matin, these two victims would be the deceased woman and the injured, the driver of the scooter.

The events took place on the departmental road D11 which crosses this commune located east of Toulon, near a petrol station and a car wash, in a district which is not known to be particularly tense.

Before this shooting on Sunday evening, the Var department had two shootings in 2019. On 9 March, a well-known figure of the Côte d'Azur's organized crime group, on the run since 2017, was found shot and killed in Tanneron. Five days later, a 20-year-old man was shot and killed in a sensitive city of Hyères."

Re: A shooting just happened in ( *fill in the blank * )

This is particularly ironic.

"Two mothers in Chicago have been killed in a drive-by shooting as they stood on a street corner in an effort to deter gun violence.

Chantell Grant and Andrea Stoudemire were volunteers for Mothers Against Senseless Killings and had been camped out at the corner to prevent conflict.

They were shot on Friday evening by the occupants of a blue SUV. No arrests have yet been made."

"Authorities say 48 people were shot in Chicago over the weekend, with eight fatalities."

Multiple fatalities, and multiple shooters too.

I find the reaction of the local mayor somewhat sad and naive: "This is a tragedy that we never, ever would have thought would happen in El Paso. It tears me up."

The irony being this isn't the first time a mass shooting has occurred out in the West Texas town of El Paso.

Re: A shooting just happened in ( *fill in the blank * )

Also in Texas (Arlington), a police officer has shot at a dog, tragically killing its owner (and missing the dog).

Indefensible. There is just no need for any man to shoot at a dog, let alone three times, and certainly not so recklessly as to take the life of a person.

The BBC is currently reporting 15 dead and 23 injured; CNN says that at least nine of the latter are critical.

The shooter, who is in custody, has been identified as Patrick Crusius of Allen, Texas. Funny, he doesn't sound Muslim, Mexican or black. Who can Trump blame now?

Crusius is apparently a Germanic name:

They need to look no further than the NRA - which pads the pockets of politicians - dems and reps. Such a travesty and yet NOTHING is ever done - after each horrific shooting!! I am so sick of lobbyists (Pharma, NRA et al) buying political favor.

When will anyone take a stand?
