Re: A shooting just happened in ( *fill in the blank * )

Germany, Halle

Quote:
At least two people have been killed in a shooting in the eastern German city of Halle, police say.

One person was arrested, police said, but other suspects were believed to have fled the Paulus area in a vehicle.

Witnesses said one gunman was wearing military camouflage and carrying several weapons.

A second shooting was then reported in Landsberg, some 15km (9 miles) east of the city. It was not clear if the incidents were connected.

It was not clear where the arrest took place. Police are still warning residents to remain in their homes.

A witness told German n-tv news that a gunman in camouflage opened fire with an assault rifle on a Turkish kebab shop.

Sounds as if it's a far-right terrorist attack. Wonder how long it will take the AfD to blame it on immigrants.

Re: A shooting just happened in ( *fill in the blank * )

"An elderly man suspected of firing shots outside a mosque in the south-western city of Bayonne has been arrested, French police say.

The gunman was trying to set fire to the mosque's door and shot two men, both in their 70s, who surprised him, police said.

They were both seriously injured in the incident, which happened at 15:20 (14:20 GMT), and taken to hospital.

An 84-year-old man was later arrested near his home close to Bayonne.

As he left the scene, the gunman also tried to set fire to a car, police said in a statement (in French)."

Re: A shooting just happened in ( *fill in the blank * )

Five people were shot and killed (two of them died in hospital) at a Hallowe'en party near San Francisco.

I missed initial reports on Friday on the shooting, noticing it only when the BBC ran a report on a commercial angle (the impact on Airbnb). Sadly, the Governor of California, Gavin Newsom, was right when, commenting on this shooting, he said, "This will barely make the news today. That's how numb we have become to this."

Five people killed... at a party. And that's still OK with all the gun rights supporters? I'm sure things would have gone so much better if half a dozen legally armed party-goers had started shooting back in self-defence.

Yes, because don't you know - the only way to combat a bad guy with a gun is to have a good guy with a gun. Unfortunately for those poor people, no good guys with guns around.

And when the police turn up then everybody holding a gun gets shot.

Sometimes I wish all of those pro-gun advocates could be put together on an isolated island somewhere. First give them a pscyhological test and only the ones who pass are allowed on the island. Then give them each their gun(s) and see how it plays out. Test their theory. Is a society really safer when everyone has a gun?

Another one to add to the ever growing collection.

2 dead, 3 injured. Seems the shooter tried to commit suicide.

Yet more, San Diego and Fresno, California and Lawton, Oklahoma.

"(Reuters) - Three people were shot and killed in a morning attack at an Oklahoma Walmart on Monday, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the latest in a string of deadly shootings in the United States."

"The violence comes on the heels of a shooting in Fresno, California, that saw at least four killed as people gathered in a backyard to watch a football game, with at least one shooter still unaccounted for."

"... and a San Diego shooting on Saturday that saw a man kill his estranged wife and three of their young sons before killing himself."

Months after a man was shot dead in a Berlin park, Germany is throwing out two Russian diplomats because it suspects the murder was ordered by Russia or Russia's Chechen republic.

At least they caught the man who did it this time - throwing away a wig & gun. He ain't talking, but he'll be spending a long time in prison, presumably, since the Russian officials deny all knowledge of him.

Re: A shooting just happened in ( *fill in the blank * )

In case you haven't realized it: the world is no orderly place anymore. Maybe it wasn't anyway for a good while - if it was at all - but all efforts to pretend otherwise, all subtlety are now basically gone.

I see no big difference between the POTUS ordering a drone-strike in Yemen or Afghanistan or wherever and Putin ordering a hit in Berlin.
(From what I understand, Putin doesn't order these hits directly anyway, he has people in his surroundings that order for him based on what he says, how he says it and general gut-feelings...of course, it's very convenient this way)

And let's be honest: if e.g Snowden lived in Berlin, how safe and secure would he be there and could an "accident" or a "robbery gone wrong" be totally excluded?

Re: A shooting just happened in ( *fill in the blank * )

Another day, another naval base mass shooting. This time, in Pensacola, Florida, at the Naval Air Station, where a shooter killed three people before being shot and killed by local law enforcement.

That's mass shooting #391 so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive, which also reports that 36,516 people have been killed by gunshot this year... so far. Well on track for 400 shootings in 2019 and hey, maybe they can push it to 40,000 deaths for the double win?

Zurich Seebach. (Yesterday, late afternoon)

A man was apparently chased by three others. He was shot several times and is in serious conditions.
No arrests have been made.

A gunman has killed six people in the waiting room of Ostrava Teaching Hospital in the Czech Republic. He has not been captured yet.

A new low -- people being shot and killed in the very place they visit to get medical help.

The reason apparently was that he was persuaded that nobody wants to help him. He shot 6 in a waiting room, injured 3 and died himself not long after.

This is very rare there. It is a very safe culture.

It is tragic and my heart goes to all the families. The staff, the people who were there...The cops who found him, the paramedics and the ER squad.
