Its a chocolate-vanilla swirl of alternating realities. The only place I really know where people walk around with hand guns are in places like Texas, and some inner city neighborhoods. You sometimes have gang infested areas adjacent to high value real estate. The lifestyles differences from one area to another are worlds apart. it isn't one particular concept of living.
So what you are saying is that is isn't guns themselves that lead to an increase in the number of deaths by shooting - but Americans with guns that lead to an increase in the number of deaths by shooting.

As you have argued so well against removing all the guns we are left with only one choice.

I checked through a few pages in this thread but really don't have the time to view every post... just wanted to make sure that everyone has seen Jim Jefferies' take on gun control.

In case you don't know Jim Jefferies: NSFW, and in case you didn't quite get that, this clip is NSFW (unless you're wearing headphones).

No, no. Prevalance of private gun ownership does not contribute to rate of violence. Scientific academic research has been determining that for some time now. Switzerland proves that. For example, Gleck:

Calling for gun control in response to a mass shooting is a emotional knee jerk reaction. Anyone is entitled to that kind of reaction. Just don't expect unanimous agreement. It doesn't fly.

Oh, you should have said so earlier. If that's what Jefferies thinks. Call Obama!

Absolutely it would be an emotional knee jerk reaction, it it was a mass shooting.

As of September 8, the U.S. was averaging 1.05 mass shootings per day in 2015 (defined as incidents in which four or more people are shot).
1 a year I might agree with you, 1 a month I'd be questioning it but over 1 a day?! That is OK with you? That is normal, acceptable behaviour of people within a civilised society?

You are now discussing behaviour, which is a separate topic from guns. You can probably tie psychiatric treatment topics more effectively to these incidents than to gun control issues.

Trust me on this - in a society with no guns it is really difficult to have a mass shooting.

There are no societies with no guns. And even with situations where there is an absence of an available gun, mass killings still occur.

Mass shootings that occur where their victims had no guns have had massive casualty rates. In fact, they target locations where they know there are no guns. Similar shootings where there have been guns, the shooting is curtailed, and the killings minimized. A number of examples have demonstrated that.

Seriously, Phos, learn what your signature means or change it. Every time I read you bleating that anything but guns is responsible for mass (or other) shootings, I see your signature. Deepest irony.

I'll claim some of that 285 as instances where the victims had no guns.

You are someone who has a few "issues" and you want to express your "issues" by gunning down a few people and then suicide or "death by cop". Do you choose to walk into a shooting range or a pre-school? These people are mad, they're not stupid.

Losing 1 person per million in 2015 in mass shooting is obviously a statistic which the masses consider worth living with.

That forms part of the 3.55 killed per 100,000 by homicide (gun).
But don't worry I have a statistic that will please you - 1.5 people per 100,000 are killed as pedestrians. (approx 4,800 per year)

Re: A shooting just happened in ( *fill in the blank * )

The Oregon campus was a gun free zone. Armed guards at schools as a standard issue would cause them to reconsider another target. It has stopped many:
http://townhall.com/tipsheet/leahbar...oting-n1850413

I think that is a more palpable defense measure than calling for nationwide gun control, which would not even have any effect.

But go ahead, feel free to get all the emotions out of the way. Maybe some need a hug first.

if Congress wanted to pass legislation calling for the immediate confiscation of all firearms, the only thing standing in its way would be existing Supreme Court decisions around the 2nd Amendment, since those decisions provide for an individual right to bear arms.
Oh that sounds easy. But I don't think the Supreme Court can singlehandedly remove a Bill of Rights amendment. That could cover steps 1 to 3 in this video. But look at step #5:
