On a lighter? note. Trigger the dog shoots his owner.

Prophetic or what?

Re: A shooting just happened in ( *fill in the blank * )

How's this for an idea (Phos)?

Uphold Americans' 2nd amendment right to bear arms: let everyone in the US own a firearm (or more than one), if they want to. But everyone who wants to own a firearm must first pass a comprehensive gun ownership course, with the pass bar set almost impossibly high. Ideally, there would be an element of mental health assessment in there too, although that would probably infringe some other precious constitutional right.

It would take a generation or more to get guns under control, but at least it's a step in the right direction -- and America would look a lot better in a generation's time than it's doomed to look now.

The 2nd amendment is already upheld, and there is a right to bear arms. Now, as I have previously said, gun owners have no interests in providing guns to lunatics and criminals. I think a majority of law abiding gun owners would support proper screening, training and licensing of ownership. There are about 100 million gun owners, and only about 4 million NRA members. The conversation need not be so polarised. The conversation is being approached in the wrong way. If they insist of demonising gun owners, there is not much ground for conversation.

Theoretically, if Hillary or Sanders wins, they may potentially appoint a liberal Supreme Court judge, and through activism overturn the 2nd amendment. Although these two do not have a lot of integrity in their voting records. There is a small chance. Although that will not really get guns off the streets anyway, and people will still keep guns regardless.

Suicide bombers killed at least 41 in Beirut yesterday. People are rightfully upset for lack of media reaction and that facebook safety check was not activated for Beirut, even though it was for Paris.

Hegenheim, France. 12 years old shot dead.

Link here in French.

A 12 years old boy was shot dead in the school bus yesterday by his friend. The gun came from the friend dad's collection of 100-150 hunting and sport guns. 32 kids were on the bus at the time of the shooting.

No details about the reasons yet.

Hegenheim is at 2km from Basel border.

That girls father needs to serve for denying the 4year old the 2nd.
Otherwise she definitely would still be alive

... Nawlins. No-one killed this time, miraculously, despite 16 people being hit.

It would have been a much better outcome if everyone in that park had been armed and ready to defend themselves -- if only the law would allow it... oh, but hang on, Louisiana:
  • requires NO PERMIT to purchase a firearm,
  • requires NO REGISTRATION of long guns or handguns,
  • requires NO LICENSING of owners,
  • PERMITS open carry,
  • and is a "shall issue" state for concealed carry of firearms.
They don't even have laws restricting assault weapons, or limiting magazine capacity.

Bummer. Even with all those second amendment rights to arm themselves to the teeth, it seems people there still get shot. I wonder what could be done to stop firearms being used illegally?

"Landrieu last January said the number of murders in New Orleans last year reached a 43-year low at 150, the lowest since 1971. City officials said the downward trend represented the third consecutive year in which murders had declined. They said New Orleans in 2014 had its lowest murder rate in over a decade, with 39.6 victims per 100,000 people."

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2...line/76239788/

Not statistics to be proud of, but certainly the almost unlimited availability of guns (as you claim above) does not seem to correlate with the premise that more guns = more killings and less guns will reduce killings.

I know. I know. It is just one data point and proves nothing. And it is just so obvious that if we get rid of guns in the US, everything will be great in the world, and blah blah blah blah.

Oh - the two "groups" mentioned in the article is newspeak for gangs. But the PC media in my country won't call it for what it is - a bunch of thugs and criminals that are gang banging and will obtain and use guns regardless of any law.

I'm sure there are a variety of factors, but could it also be partly due to the fact the population is about 35% smaller than it was in 1970?

1970: 593,471
2014: 384,320

They seem to have normalized the data as they talk about "per 100,000", but that is just another detail.

Could be that the demographics changed or bullets got more expensive. Probably global warming though.

Probably it's down to 209,000 people in Nawlins being killed with firearms up to 2013, then they took a breather in 2014.

Re: A shooting just happened in ( *fill in the blank * )

Just another day in Honduras perhaps, but what is so nauseating is that 8 bus drivers were executed on a single day for doing nothing more than trying to scrape a living. This is terrorism.

Fifteen killed in Honduras in two separate massacres
Seven were shot in Tegucigalpa and eight bus drivers were killed in San Pedro Sula less than 12 hours apart in what police believe were gang-related attacks

Two massacres in Honduras have killed 15 people in less than 12 hours.

Police say seven were shot in the capital of Tegucigalpa early Wednesday, while eight bus drivers were killed in the northern city of San Pedro Sula late Tuesday.

Police commissioner Leonel Sauceda gave a news conference where bodies were found after the attack in the capital, where six of the victims were pulled from their homes and killed.

People could be heard crying in the background when a reporter asked the police chief how he felt.

“I can’t feel anything other than pain, sadness, much sorrow for what happened ... It hurts to see a scene like this,” said Sauceda, breaking into tears. “But it’s not time to drop our guard. It’s time to keep fighting for the welfare of Honduras and this family that is suffering.”

He said the manner of the attack suggests it was done by gangs, who battle for territory to charge extortions and sell drugs. The same morning, investigators found a voodoo doll stuffed with needles and bearing Sauceda’s face at one of the crime scenes.

In the other massacre, six men in flak jackets and ski masks got off a bus at a terminal outside the city of San Pedro Sula on Tuesday and shot eight bus drivers one by one. Transport director Geovanny Dubon said the attack should be classified as “terrorism”.

Murders of bus drivers and taxi drivers are common in Honduras and are almost always linked to the collection of extortion by any of the half-dozen gangs that operate nationwide. Nearly all drivers must pay a weekly amount to one or more of the gangs. Failure to pay often results in death.

It was a bloody 12 hours for Honduras, which had been making some progress since its designation in recent years as the world’s deadliest country for a nation not at war.

According to the Violence Observatory of the National University, so far in 2015 the homicide rate in the country is around 45 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants, while in 2011 it was 91 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants.

The government said 174 public transportation drivers were killed in 2014. According to the national human rights commissioner, in the first three months of 2015 there were 34 killed.

Middle-aged white man kills three and injures more at Planned Parenthood center in Colorado Springs. Luckily they just moved into a new facility with safe rooms. Colorado has a toxic mix of open carry law and extremist evangelical Christians. Forget the Muslims and worry about the real killers.

San Bernadino, CA. East of LA.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department tweeted that there was an "active shooter in the area of Orange Show Rd/Waterman Ave near Park center says CNN.

This follows yesterday's news that more Americans have died after being killed by the police than all the so called "terrorists" and other terror acts added together since 9/11.
