I'm pretty sure though don't read Pakistani/Urdu. Same goes for RSA where multiple gun felony is being committed on daily basis. These won't reach European's headlines at the same rate as the infamous Oscar's trial will do, becauase everyone knows who the latter is.

I don't see that happening in my lifetime. Any politician that doesn't tow the line of "Guns, Jesus and We're Number One!" doesn't stand a chance.
Democrats too?

Who knew...

Maybe slightly less so on the guns, but still very much so on Jesus and We're Number One! Depends on the home district.

When was the last time you saw major headlines on a terroris attack in Pakistan or Afghanistan? Aside from Iraq and Nigeria these are the countries most afflicted by terrorism, India is number six on the same list.
The Terrorism Index you describe which includes India at number six gives a high weighting for fatalities.

A murder committed by a person of one religion in the name of that religion is considered an act of terrorism, according to the Index.
India is massive with 1.2 billion people.
A few religious killings here and there as even a very small percentage of the population, which probably don't even get a mention in the next state and definitely not in the international news are going to move India right up that list.

What a ridiculous thing to post.

If currently-illegal drugs were totally legalised and made available for sale everywhere, do you think:
  1. More people will take currently-illegal drugs?
  2. The same number of people will take currently-illegal drugs?
  3. Less people will take currently-illegal drugs?

Nobody is suggesting that no-one will get shot if gun control is tightened up but look at countries like Canada to see what happens when gun control is effective.

If there was a strong correlation, those points would be closer to the trend line.

In fact they are arranged more as a cloud with only a weak correlation, as in the top left and bottom right areas of the chart being empty.

Hawaii seems to be in an interesting position.

Sorry, that's nonsense. The blank corners of the chart are so because of the close correlation with the trend line!

So we do know gun and ammo sales in the US are skyrocketing exponential.. So would you assume the rate of gun deaths would also increase proportionately? I think this is easy enough to look at a year from now.

Also, given that a large portion of gun deaths are actually suicides, wouldn't legalizing euthanasia drastically curtail gun deaths? It would be much easier to pass a Euthanasia law than to get rid of guns, which is now impossible.

Another view of things:

Quote:
A group of people had been walking in front of the driver around 11:50 p.m. in the 2900 block of North Milwaukee Avenue when Everardo Custodio, 22, began firing into the crowd, Quinn said.

The driver pulled out a handgun and fired six shots at Custodio, hitting him several times, according to court records. Responding officers found Custodio lying on the ground, bleeding, Quinn said. No other injuries were reported.

A shooting just happened in ( *fill in the blank * )

I knew an old lady who lived in Buffalo, NY. Often people knocked on her door an tried to trick her to unlock the door. She would load a gun and yell at them to go away, or...

This doesn't happen either in PL or in CH. This "right to have guns" seems bizarre, but the crime level in Buffalo is not "normal", so I would keep a gun as well if I had to live there.

I also remember a scared look of a cashier in US, when, in a company campus building, I've asked to withdraw about 2k in cash. A very different cash culture.

Smith & Wesson's sales have sky rocketed. Now there's a surprise.

http://www.bbc.com/news/business-35047899

Walmart is now the biggest seller of firearms in the US. Let me check my shopping list - eggs, fish, green beans, peas, bacon, gun, salad - yep, good to go.

Is buying a firearm in a grocery store anything new in America?

Well, memory's a bit faulty, but I don't recall them being sold there when I was a kid back in the late 50s/early 60s. Only knew one person who had a gun and that was Brit expat who went hunting.

Alot has changed since the 50s and 60's. We even have equal rights and all.
Since 30 years at least this is the norm. Walmart just happens to be big chain
And they sell guns. They also sell vibrating penis rings from Playtex which I am sure weren't the normal on offer at the local grocery store in the 50s and 60's as well.

It seems like there is a trend ongoing that people like to be armed to the teeth in the wake of recent shootings. Major factor to purchase firearms seems to be out of fear after recent incidents.

Smith & Wesson triples profits in three months to October
