So you still haven't answered my question.

So why are you fanboing US Gun ownership? I suppose if you don't like it, you simply don't go. Like, I am 100% against monkey brain eating. So my solution is simple. I don't go to where there is monkey brain eating going on. Simple, no?
What's with the obsession with gun control in the US?

Re: A shooting just happened in ( *fill in the blank * )

America needs more guns and more ammo. That way they'll kill more of each other and the civilised won't have to put up with them bleating on about how much better they are than the rest of us.

Once we have cleansed the world of Americans we'll then find the next race to dispose of.

When it comes to genocide you need to take baby steps.

If you post as much as I do on one thread then why is it an obsession with me (and not with you)?

You're not in the U.S. You're here.

I think there are a few of you that want gun controls in Europe to be relaxed.
I think some of you want to be able to carry your guns around.

As some of you have the right to vote, it is in my interest.

Also, fashions and trends in the U.S. do tend to make it across the Atlantic - MacDonalds, obesity, bad coffee etc etc so there's an interest there.

Additionally I brought up the God/bible/abortion connection and you freaked a bit so I find that interesting too.

And of course the U.S. is the most amazing country on earth so naturally I show an interest.

And also I find your views frankly ridiculous so there's the comedy element.

It's not personal though. There are many more like you. I've met lots of them.

I don't think you really answered that question. I find it ridiculous that you would obsess about something you don't have any control of, nor understand. It a Don Quixote complex. What you don't seem to comprehend is that its not my opinion you need to worry about. Its factual object reality..... but oh, look! A windmill! Charge!

And you do?

Why is that?

It's not really an obsession with me. You see I don't wet myself over photos of guns. I don't wear T-shirts proclaiming the fact that I love guns.

I don't even talk about it. This is one thread on one forum on one giant internet.

I think if you do a little searching you'll find a lot of threads and a lot of websites where people really are obsessive about these things.

They're the people we should be concerned about.

No mods stepping in in this quarrel?
If this were newbies acting like this I'm sure that steps would've been taken by now.

No, that would be ridiculous. Instead, let's just make piss-taking comments, stick our fingers in our ears while singing "la-la-la-la-la" (or of course, John Lennon's Imagine), and pretend the 32,383 firearms deaths highlighted in the graphic above never happened, and even if they did, would have happened anyway even if guns weren't freely available.

Until you or a close family member or friend is killed by a gun.
Are you revealing something here? Sorry if so.

I think sometimes you just let people tire themselves and run out of steam. This gun friction has been here at least few times a year, every year.

Knock it off, folks - with the shooting-the-messenger antics. Let's get more civilized and open to actually profound and interesting debate instead. Or, open a pre-Friday Friday thread. Or, there's always the Bad Joke Challenge.

Re: A shooting just happened in ( *fill in the blank * )

I realize its an emotional issue for some. But I don't think this is a good outlet for emotional issues. Not a good idea to disguise it as an actual topic for intellectual discussion. There is no catharsis in it.

Not sure what you mean here?

You came in with one post which basically dredged up that old chestnut that it's not guns that people, it's people that kill people.

Not exactly adding to the debate yourself, were you?

I think there are points to think about..what makes one society with guns violent and another society with guns not violent. One can debate points about guns in a non abrasive way.

That would be nice but apparently some of us keep getting told we are too stupid to understand the issues.

And all of the questions we ask of the 'experts' get conveniently ignored.

So, what books do people reckon are good to read on the subject?

Has anyone read "Deer Hunting with Jesus"? Is that worth a read?

Gun control, Switzerland has it, even though every man eligible for the army owns a gun, there's no such thing as concealed or open carry as the Americans understand it.

Re: A shooting just happened in ( *fill in the blank * )

Another question for debate:

If the people from the U.S. on here wish they could carry their loaded firearms around here (in Switzerland), how do they feel as they can't?

Less safe? Scared? Impotent?

And as has it has been said numerous times on this thread (the last time by MusicChick, in so many words), that guns don't kill people, people kill people (other weapons are available), do these ex-U.S. people carry anything purposely which they can a weapon in place of their firearm?
