The point is, that you cannot blame the manufacturer for something the product is intended to do. A gun is supposed to shoot. A children's toy has to be designed so that it cannot pose a choking hazard...as otherwise it will and should be banned.
Nonsense. There are dozens, if not hundreds, of toys out there which pose a choking hazard and are not banned. Bits of Lego, Meccano, puzzle pieces, etc, come to mind immediately. So long as there's a warning saying not suitable for children under 3 or whatever they're perfectly legal in most countries.

Kinder Surprise also carries the same warning:

"Kinder Surprise bears warnings advising the consumer that the toy is “not suitable for children under three years, due to the presence of small parts” and that “adult supervision is recommended."

It does break the US law against "toys/trinkets" being inside a confectionary product which is why it's banned in the States.

Sorry, this is wrong. Everybody knows that Canada is a crime-free, superbly health-care provisioned, multicultural paradise.

It simply isn't possible that it might have ****ed up people, criminals and social problems just like its benighted neighbour to the south.

Stop waffling and get back to the bit about intruders killing people living in Switzerland in their own homes.

Or is that in your version of Switzerland (the one no-one else can see).

Der_Spieler has become a little unpopular
Re: A shooting just happened in ( *fill in the blank * )

Its entirely the mother`s fault for brining the gun to the store and for not securing it.
Now that poor toddler will have to live to the rest of his life with the guilt that he killed his own mother.
At least it wasnt somebody else completely innocent who suffered. The mother made the mistake and paid for it.

Waffling? I've been in Switzerland long before you have and with that, able to read local newspapers before you knew how to spell Rösti.

Here are some interesting articles which may shed light on your ignorance:

Absolutely nothing about homeowners being attacked by burglars.

The first was just about a motion to increase the rights of a homeowner in self-defense.

The second one was about a house-owner shooting a burglar - and Not a burglar shooting a house-owner (which is what you seemed to be concerned about.

So, why the f**k do we all need guns and ammo?

You may have been here longer than me but I'm no sure what that actually counts for in your case with regard to your wanting Switzerland to be like the Wild West.

Re: A shooting just happened in WALMART!

In case no one bothered to click on that link, here's the article's title:

"US woman accidentally shot dead by son, two, in Idaho Wal-Mart."

I just ran across that article earlier today, and all I could think was what an idiot that woman was -- to have a loaded gun so close to her children. (Her son had reached into her purse when she wasn't looking). And yet the article I had read was quoting her family as saying what a responsible gun owner she had been.

These gun lunatics are so paranoid that they're willing to put their own lives -- and the lives of their children and anyone else -- at risk simply because they have the illusion of feeling safer in the (unlikely) event that they should feel the need to use a gun to defend themselves.

Sorry to vent. I'm just so tired of reading about stories like this.

(Edit: Oops, I just noticed RichDog's earlier post, which explained the story in the link).

Clearly, the articles posted are about the limitations imposed to law abiding citizens when confronted with burglers/intruders and other random people who have no business entering your residence. I'm not your administrative assitant and hence, you can do your own homework on such incidents. I don't want any country to be the wild west but I would like to reserve the right to rightfully defend myself in my own quarters without having to fear some sort of legal repercussions when doing so.

I did. There aren't.
Stop scare-mongering.

Do you have a wife and kids. Is it their welfare you are concerned about or just your own, or do you have some sort of paranoia complex?

Sorry to be blunt but you are the only person I have met in Western Europe who feels that the people need to carry guns or have them at home to protect themselves.

I'm not sure it's guns you need but perhaps medical help*

*Read that anyway you want. To be frank, I don't give a damn.
I think you really need to address your persecution delusions or stop trolling.

This sets the new standard to be beaten. After earlier in 2014 with a 9 year old spraying 9mm lead from an Uzi into the instructor's face at Nevada's "Bullets & Burgers", America is now searching for talented one year olds to regain the "taking care of business award" in the firearms race against even stupider adults.

If you apply now before the end of January 2015, the NRA will offer a 10% discount for all pink knitted magazine clip holders that you can hang from your stroller. Probably.

And we always thought dinosaurs were dumb when they became extinct .....

One child is holding something banned in the US for child safety...the other isn't. Try to guess.

Re: A shooting just happened in Cincinnati

Incredible footage from inside a lift shows the moment a US police officer accidentally shot himself in front of his horrified wife.
Darryl Jouett of Erlanger, Kentucky suffered serious injuries after accidentally discharging his firearm while the pair were on a date.
The incident was caught by a CCTV camera, showing his wife's horror as the off-duty officer accidentally fires the pistol, causing a bullet to ricochet into his stomach.
"He was transitioning the holster and transitioning the gun out of his holster," Cincinnati Police Captain Michael John. "He was going to carry it in his hand as they walked to the car.
"As he was pulling the gun from the holster, a round discharged, ricocheted in the elevator, struck him in the stomach."

If a trained police officer has no idea how to handle a weapon safely then how the hell can the public at large be expected to do the same?

This incident involves a Glock pistol which unlike most other semi-automatic handguns is designed without an external safety and unless the chamber is empty, the gun is always ready to fire. When Glocks initially were introduced to some police forces in the US, accidental firings occurred quite frequently. It basically boils down to effective police training and careful handling of a weapon.

Re: A shooting just happened in ( *fill in the blank * )

the sole function of a gun is to kill. it is a tool, nothing more and nothing less.

if somebody walked through any town in the US carrying just about any other out-of-context tool, such as a a power drill, or an electric hedge trimmer, or even something as small as an electric toothbrush, we would think they were either crazy, stupid or both. why we feel any different at all about somebody carrying a gun absolutely baffles me, unless we honestly believe that our lives are in danger and the need to kill another human being could present itself at any possible moment. in which case, of course, we are either crazy or our country is not fit for living.

as for the woman in Idaho - she lived in Idaho, she was shopping at WalMart, and she left both a 2 year old child and a loaded weapon unattended long enough for the 2 to find each other. it is very difficult for me to muster up much sympathy under those circumstances. I can of course sympathize with the child, but that would have been true even before the shooting incident.

Actually I think it is absolutely hysterical that a lot of the U.S. mothers on this forum were most indignant and horrified about a little piece of plastic in a special once-a-year three-kings bread (which due to it's shape, is probably not a choking hazard anyway) but I don't see them writing on this thread about how upsetting it was, and how shocked they are, to see what happened with the two year old shooting his mother with her gun.

To you lot - shame on you!

As explained to you before...bread should not contain any extra shennanigans inside..and if it does, one could at least expect the packaging to have some sort of label indicating the "surprise". If the plastic figurine didn't pose a choking hazard, then we wouldn't have had the thread about it. On the other hand, with a gun it's fairly simple, it shoots. There are no plastic kings, no stardust fairies, no pink unicorns. It is designed to shoot and should not be handled carelessly.

But it can be so easily - even by a trained Police officer.

And, I think we have shown that the Dreikönige Brot was actually more of a language problem as almost all had a warning on the package.

Yes, read my above post on the Glock.

The bread is a no-brainer, as it should be labelled in English as well.
