From http://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime...i-8121247.html

"A new witness, thought to be one of the last people to see the family alive, said the al-Hillis drove to the isolated car park at least an hour before they were killed. Laurent Fillion-Robin, 38, said there was no sign of any vehicle following the family. He said he was working on a house in Chevaline when he saw the red BMW drive past between 2.30pm and 3pm. The shooting was reported to police just before 4pm."

So, in other words, the dead bicyclist and the family met up, and the second bicyclist killed them all (and then phoned it in)?

Tom
Maybe they had a plan to meet somebody in this isolated car park who was already waiting there?

Its a very long flight. Does he have to be on a Canadian horse to solve this, or will a French one do?

I read in the Telegraph the other day that a white 4x4 and a motorbike were seen going up to the park at about the same time, but have heard nothing about this since.

Ballistic experts believe that a 7.65mm calibre automatic pistol – a small and old-fashioned gun – was used to fire all 25 shots during the slaughter on a track above Lake Annecy in south eastern France.

Now it's really some James Bond stuff

The Guardian speculating
Quote:
"It's probably the most famous calibre. There is the old James Bond Walther PPK. You can get very early 1903, 1904 pistols that were made in that calibre. It ranges from back then to now and they are still making them today. It could be quite a modern gun was used," he said. "It's probably a pistol of some sort. There are a lot of manufacturers around the world make them. It's not a low, low calibre. It's still very dangerous."
You don't say?

As opposed to a revolver.

Actually, it's only semi-automatic, but everyone calls them automatic.

For the Swiss angle the SIG P210 and it's successor, the SIG P220 have been available for, and can be chambered for the 7.65x21mm Parabellum.

This has all the hallmarks of an FIS shoot to kill operation to prevent terrorists getting their hands on nuclear weapons.

Yes. It does make you wonder if the father was there to meet the cyclist and made the very horribly sad mistake to bring the family with him.

It's a terrible, sad (and intriguing) story.

But why cycle up there for a clandestine meeting? I think the French guy was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Well he probably thought that breaking out the Apache helicopter would attract too much attention

What I find intriguing is that the older girl was apparently beaten and then shot, but not in the head. Killer(s) with a conscience or something?

Ran out of bullets? They said there were 15 cartridge cases lying around....

I mean he hit her to keep her quiet while he reloaded

They keep saying it's quite and isolated place even for cyclists and hikers and the road sort of ends. So, perhaps they didn't want to seen.

Or perhaps the cyclist goes there all the time and said to the father "I cycle up that road every day around 3pm. There is a car park there..."

I don't know. We could think of a 1000 scenarios. I don't envy the detectives. Then again, I'd like to be working the case.

Seems right. Latest is there was only one shooter and she had to reload.

Most of the conspriracy theories seem pretty flimsy to me. The French guy was not qualified & Al-Hilli designed the kitchen for the new Airbus...

Going to a secret meeting with the wife, kids and Granny does not seem very likely either.

Re: French shooting killing 4 British

This is an interesting angle:
http://www.theweek.co.uk/crime/annec...gnature-weapon

Maybe some Eastern European mafia was trying to extort some work-related info from him, and when he wouldn't give it up, he got hit on order to drive fear into the next person they try to extort?

...anyway, with the "mysterious Balkan guy" dressed in a "smart jacket" hanging around the camp-site and use of this caliber bullet, could suggest some E.Europe mafia involvement.
