Re: The Day the Earth stood still ?

The date snuck up on me, although I have been thinking about it recently...I miss the pre-9/11 optimism and life that was in the US. Might need to avoid Facebook today for all the American flag and we are better than you posts; as well as pictures of planes going into buildings. Don't get me wrong, I love the US for many reasons, but I do dislike the "God Bless us and not you" mentality that some people have.

Anyways, the day will always be etched in my memory and I can remember more from what I did on that day than I can from a day last week! Makes me sad...

despite my starting this thread I agree whole-heartedly with that bit I put in bold above.. part of the reason why I titled this thread as I did ( with question mark )

Thinking of all those who died or lost a loved one.

Re: The Day the Earth stood still ?

It would be nave and insensitive to forget those innocent victims of 9/11, but I can't help but think of the enormous loss that Americans then imposed on their own military forces by kicking the dog because they couldn't get the cat, meaning foreign U.S. interventions in the name of peace.

Re: The Day the Earth stood still ?

just about every American has a 9/11 story (as unfortunately do I), and I hope we tell them at least once a year for as long as we can remember them.

I'm American and like you I have my stories... but I also have Brit stories... every English person I met that day was very kind, inquisitive, supportive.

and the day a week later ( ?, couldnt have been more than a week?...two? ) when there was a 2 min. silence... it was amazing... even cars stopped on the street.

And we mustn't forget the many casualties from other countries around the world.
