My Swiss husband never "looks in the mirror" (so to speak) but is always quick to point out my flaws. He even made me cry on our wedding night.

But she's still just a human being, like the rest of us.

Her nipples are no more magical than mine or yours.
You have to laugh. Austrian TV showed a photo in question last night. Someone had taken the trouble to 'cross out' her nipples, just like the censors used to do 50 years ago. It seems as if it's not bare breasts that disturb but the sight of nipples, those things that we all have and those things most of us have had in our mouths for various periods of our lives.

And we've been on the moon!!!

If you were famous? That's not what I asked. I'm asking a simple question: suppose your mother's magnificent breasts* were snapped by a Peeping Tom with a mega lens as she sunbathed on a private property, on holiday, having had assurances that no one could see her --and those pics were posted on the internet? Are you saying you wouldn't mind?

[*i.e. bing bongs]

That's the issue. Is it acceptable for someone to treat your family that way, or is it unacceptable? What's the answer?

(Just out of interest, what's the source of the information about them being in "....full view of a number of public roads withut screens or hedges....?" Not saying you're wrong, but I couldn't find any reference to the location or circumstances when I just looked. I didn't get the impression that this picture/s was snapped by a passing motorist.)
as im sure she isnt a celeb we wouldnt know about it so i dont care, im 100% sure someone has photos of my girlfriends breasts * when we were on holiday... big wow so what, doesnt bother me.

"famous status" has everything to do with it, the location is Chateau d’Autet (who have virtually shut down the web site BTW) and a public road is 400 - 800m away depending on the road route and going by the photos its from that road the photos were taken.

end of the day its pure stupidity, public area, wide open fields, dont be too surprised or complain about privacy.

IF the area had been closed down or they were in the rear garden, surrounded by hedges or screen and some guy was up a tree or overhead in a helicopter then fair enough i say they have a point to argue

Other stories are emerging "normal" photos were taken by a woman pap from the road and the couple were in direct view and there were other drivers, walkers etc in the area.

lets just face it they fecked it up with the " no one can see you" line and were caught out....they will take more care in future.

if they had responded to the photos with " oh surprise! a woman has breasts" type answer then it wouldnt be such a big deal

* bing bongs

you have your views, i have mine and they are different and i guess we have to agree to disagree.

I don't know if we agree or not because you haven't answered my question properly. Well, you seem be saying that you don't care if someone photographs your girlfriend naked, fair enough. If she's sunbathing on a public beach, you probably wouldn't have much to complain about. But what if she believes she is in a private place? Let's say she's walking past a hotel window and someone snaps her with a telescopic lens? And what if those pictures are then published online or in a magazine?

My suspicion is that you would both be bloody furious.

And that's the issue -- the expectation of privacy. You seem to be saying that people have no right to privacy if they are stupid enough to make it technically possible to be spied on. If your girlfriend is stupid enough to walk past a hotel window naked, a mere 800 metres from a photographer with a telescopic lens, well, what can she expect?

Back to William and Kate. What I am asking you is not how much care was taken researching their security (which is the question you are answering). I am asking you whether you think it is right to try to take those pictures, and whether it is right for a magazine to publish them?

Simple question. Is it acceptable behaviour?

If he was more interested in sex, would you be less talking down it's effects on common society?

just seen this so late reply....

from my view there are many variables involved depending on the circumstances.

beach/public areas -nothing to complain about
inside your own house - something to complain about - you are correct i wouldnt be happy.

whatever the circumstances clothed / unclothed, running around pouring oil paint on eath other etc it is still an intrusion.

they protection squad have to share some of the blame for the photos, yes it was on private property but in full view of joe blogs in public areas.

i like the window example actually, if she is standing naked in the window and the guy across the street is looking then i dont blame him, if you dont want people to see you dont stand in the window in view of them.
If he is thats a different case again.

personal view: no its not acceptable behavior people have a right to privacy but if you are in the public eye take precautions.

non personal view the photos should never have been able to be taken, and as they were and able to, and published well thats just tough for the subjects concerned.

Remember i am not talking about scaling fences, rooting through undergrowth and climbing trees in someones garden or forest to get to the house gardens or deploying drones to get the photos.

2 different paps took huge amounts of photos apparently at different times from different places along the road

As i am typing a french court has placed an injunction on further photos being published in france.

"pay William and Kate 5,000 euros (£4,034) in damages.

In addition the court agreed to fine the magazine 10,000 euros (£8,070) a day for each day the injunction was not respected, and 100,000 euros (£80,720) if the photos are sold on.

However, lawyers representing Italian publishing group Mondadori, which owns France's Closer and is controlled by former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, told the court that the photos are not theirs to sell."

A totally futile exercise IMHO as it wont stop any other country publishing them and wont stop them appearing on the internet so total punishment is 5000 euro, they made 50 times that amount in magazine sales.

note for the protection squad -

1: is a public road in the area with full view of property - yes
2. is public road closed to public - no
result : remind 'er indoors to keep clothes on.

exactly! someone trained and in a gilly suit could easily get to within 100m and wait there for days for the right moment.

Re: Someone deserves privacy

Come on, the English journalists pointing out a French newspaper for not respecting privacy. One HAS to support that. Nobody listens when it's the other way around, so it's too good an opportunity to get the message across that French law is right. Especially when the English are making that point.
My full support to the outraged subjects of Her (next) Majesty. Even if it takes a French law to enforce it.

NUJ says threat to close Irish paper is 'over the top'
Quote:
A threat to close a newspaper because it reprinted topless pictures of the Duchess of Cambridge has been described as an "over the top reaction" by the National Union of Journalists (NUJ)....
The tabloid's co-owner, Richard Desmond, said he was "taking immediate steps to close down the joint venture"....
NUJ Irish secretary, Seamus Dooley, said the closure threat was "a callous and crude attempt by Northern and Shell to protect their UK commercial interests", and he claimed that the company had shown "no regard for the livelihood" of its Irish workers.

The Danish weekly magazine weekly Se og Hoer is short of news,

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-19649604

Why doesn't Kate go home and show them off to everybody, then these pathetic magazines will have to work a bit harder to fill their pages.
