If Romney is elected, I think part of me is going to hoping that the Mayans were "right."

(Of course, the Mayans never really predicted the end of the world, though. They simply stopped their calendar. After all, it couldn't go on infinitely. )

That surprises me about an earthquake in Maine, though...

Surely they could have added a few more days to include christmas and get to the end of the year...

Bet there is a continued calendar that has not been found yet? Maybe it has traded hands twenty times at five bucks a pop at flea markets around the world

There is a claim that there are Mayan ruins buried in the hills of North Georgia... which really doesn't have any substance.

Adding those two up is quite easy for me.

My ultra conservative step-father lives in Maine and he was starting his pow-wow to knock Obama out of the debate ring, seems it didn't work though.

Re: what does this mean ?!? ( news from America )

You know, a geomagnetic reversal is long overdue. If one day you wake up and there is no Internet or electricity or no cell phones work, etc., it may be because the poles have finally reversed and so there will be a period where there is no magnetic field.

Here's a wiki page about it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geomagnetic_reversal

If you scroll down to "Effects on biosphere and human society," you can read about the effects the reversal might have on the earth, including the possibility of mass extinctions.

Here's a little NOVA film about the magnetic field and its weakening:

I don't think the Mayan calendar has anything to do with this, though. But... they were incredibly in-tune with the cosmos and were able to predict eclipses, etc. far into the future. So who knows.

Actually... now that I think of it, a good friend of mine is an Astrophysicist and director for the Institute of Theoretical Physics at Zurich University. I'm going to ask him for his thoughts about the pole reversal...

But that wont change instantaneous but over several decades. For all the other stuff see avatar and signature (No, I do change my avatar as often as Grynch).

Yeah, I'm curious what my friend will have to say about. I trust his thoughts and opinions. I just sent him an email.

He just wrote a book about the future of the Universe (and our place in it), actually. Unfortunately, though, it doesn't appear to have been released in English (only German).
