I'm in New York at the moment and have been watching the morning national news shows. I've always been a bit critical, but this morning, in the two hours that i have been half watching whilst arguing with DB, working and waiting for my working day to start....

They have not covered

Presidential Election aftermath
Fiscal Cliff
New Chinese Leadership
Hurricane Sandy
Deepening Military Scandal
North Korean Missile Tests
Possible Exhumation of Yasser Arafat

They HAVE covered

A concert and quiz in the Plaza by Wand Erection

Candyfloss TV
Didn't you have one of those?

I think he was trying to make a point about American culture by the use of a rhetorical device.

(But he's the only person who's allowed to start a thread in such a manner: if anyone else does so, they're trolling)

Sure....nobody forced me to watch, but it isn't rhetorical - it was genuinely the running order. But I thought that it was an interesting insight - it seems to have drifted to more trivia over the years I've been travelling here.

No - to me "trolling" is about picking arguments from nothing. Don't need to look too far to find an example of that.

No, mate. To you "trolling" is disagreeing with the Infallible Word of Caviarchips.

If you can't find an informative morning news program in New York. Even the Today show covers all major headlines at the top of the hour. Have you tried ABC, CNN, CNN Headline News, Fox and MSNBC will cover all the major stories (if giving their slant during the commentary). Did you turn in the radio, or pick up a copy of the New York Times, the Washington Post, the LA Times, or visit any of their websites, or go to the website if a News Service? Sorry, I'm not buying your argument.

Well, hope your not comparing it to SF1 ? Enjoy your stay but I never considered the Today /Morning Show News. It has the word Show in it. Only the Evening News is pure News.

Re: American news coverage is an embarrassment

I've noticed that the news here in CH and the EU in general is more informative. My wife and I would always laugh when in the states watching the news comprised of...

"And now International news...The war in Iraq/Afghanistan/etc]"

...Then back to local news. GAH. really? That's it for International. It's mostly about the US, or what some country is doing TO the US, or some other permutation thereof. They were probably saving the juicy stuff for NBC News that came on after but we preferred to watch BBC or something. Maybe it was just us.

BTW, I couldn't resist...
