The nurse story is not the best but the DJs calling the hospital on this is hilarous making such of mockery of the prim and proper english security over the royals!
Even I cannot believe you said that. Did you read the thread at all?

I'm amazed and saddened at your viewpoint. It is particularly unfortunate Given that you appear to be from Australia as well from your name.

I'm not so sure, I think people who have been close to it themselves and come out the other side would also think it selfish. Almost the opposite of what you say BUT everybody is different.
I have seen and spoken to suicidal people that were close to me about their thoughts and options on suicide and never thought they were being selfish to consider it. Life is just too much sometimes... maybe not if your biggest problem is "too much snow," but there are people that battle one thing after another and at the end, there isn't much left.

That being said, if one is suffering from depression, a day with "too much snow" could just as easily be a trigger producing extreme results. I have long suffered from depression, and today, it was tough--waiting a half an hour for a bus---that never came, taking other buses for alternate routes and having each sequential bus being cancelled--along side people constantly standing in my personal space. In all reality none issues, but I was definitely steaming and raging in my head--why is this all happening to ME? what did I do to deserve it.

There is no general metric to define what is unfair what is unfair for someone to have to deal with. But we cannot expect the entire society to tiptoe around any such potential trigger. That is why I do not see any good in blaming the radio DJs for what happened. It is just an extremely sad and unfortunate situation for all involved. The worst we can do is martyrize the victim on the count of bad taste humour.

Do you have any details of the previous suicidal tendencies ? A link or report perhaps ?
And do you have any information that this "prank" was the cause of her suicide?

Honestly, you could go on all night/day/weekend...

Suicide is considered selfish only by people who have never been pulled into the deep absess of whispering demons.
It is selfish if using a textbook definition of selfishness, but fundamentally, to call it selfish is to forget that we live in a real world and undermines the fact that people with genuine suicidal ideation are in genuine need of help.

Agreed, but when the children are left afterwards the 'nothing much left' that you talk about also refers to them, and that can be a problem. This can lead to the selfish consideration.

Not true, my friend. Anybody who's been trapped in the darkest chasms of their brain are grateful to come out alive and are more sensitive than before they made their horror journey. It's about overcoming a mental sickness and knowing there will always be a whisp of this memory that will follow them to the end of their lives.

Further evidence that EF'ers can and will argue over anything and everything.

But I guess that's what helps keep this place ssssspicy.

I'm not arguing, I just think it is wrong to place the blame the DJs. Suicide is complex.

No, did I claim to have ?

Go and play in the sandpit for a while the adults are discussing things.
Ah. I think I'll leave you in the sandpit.

Sorry if this is news to you, but suicide is not the result of a one-off event - it is the culmination of months or years of "issues" - whether psychological or stress. The trigger might an event, but there will be history.

Someone brought the case of Dr Kelly as an example. Yes, a lot of pressure, but something that had been building up for months and months, right from the original report which he felt was wrong and eventually blew the whistle on (and that assumes that it was suicide). Not a couple of weeks.

You asked the question: "where's prior evidence of suicide?", which shows your level of ignorance and, I think, unwillingness to stop baying for blood, instead of asking why this poor person took her life.

Suicide is never simple and never easy to explain - neither for the victim nor the family or friends left behind. To try and blame it on one single thing is facile.

Now I ask you, what is your knowledge that this was the cause of the suicide?

Now go ask yourself how nice that sandpit is.

I love it here. I'm making sandcastles while you talk clever complex stuff like psychoanalysis. If it gets back down to my level I'll try and join in again but your way above my league it's pretty clear.

Re: Duchess of Cambridge hoax call nurse found dead

Moderators Just knock this one Thread on the head - too many folk with their heads up their proverbial. 70-plus million more folk in the UK can perform the post mortem - I am sure 1000 EF active members do not need to add to this. Bugger all to do with Switzerland anyway.

Feel very bad for the lass - people are really not so thick skinned these days and with constant nit picking and bombardments from so many sources and directions I can almost see why she topped herself - even with no other extenuating, excruciating or ongoing history issues.
Just my - sober - thoughts

Indeed, I heard the tape of the call on the news the other night and I'm thinking, I'm not even f-ing living in England and even I can tell that the voice on the line isn't the Queen, WTF? Was the hospital in Mayberry? After Diana, you'd think there'd be a strict protocol, etc. for someone like her in the hospital. I'm sad to hear about the nurse, but those radio folks are not the source of the blame.

Who is really to blame for the nurse death?

Hi All
Crank calls by radio stations are really nothing new and over the years many have fallen victim.

First I do not condemn them, but you have to wonder where the blame lays

With those two silly Aussie D J s or with the British press who kept harping on about not been able to understand how she fell for it due to the poor accents of the crank callers and their Aussie accents?

Most important to remember here this poor mother leaves two small children without a mum- very sad indeed
