The threat of Berlusconi possibly getting up into government again shocked me deeply. There is indeed a danger that the Italians give him a majority again. In spite of the other side having a serious and viable candidate, who can be expected to provide real work, while Berlusconi, if getting a majority, will bring Italy into ruin even more. Let's pray that God will save Italy and the world from that menace | The following 3 users would like to thank Wollishofener for this useful post: | |

I'm aware of the fact that Berlusconi is no saint (and I'm sure nobody had ever given his vote for believing so), but it is fairly untrue that he would have ruined the country, nor would he have abolished freedom of speech or free media.
As long as it is +- in an acceptable legal form, I don't care in the slightest what he does in his private life,
and he's right in some of his political positions (nevertheless I wouldn't have ever voted for him), and some things he did better than Monti (for whom btw I have a high esteem) does now.
Berlusconi was elected democratically, and if he were re-elected, it would be again inside legal institutions. | | | | | Sorry but,as an Italian ,i think I can tell you something about berlusconi...He DID change Laws for his Benefit,He Used National Tranports(I mean planes and cars which are only destined for politics) to let his girls go shopping,He Did was re-elected democratically yes,but he was elected by the people he manipulated through the years with the Tv programs oh HIS TV Channels, which for decades only promoted him and made jokes about the Rivals,He DID control Media,TV's and Newspapers from publishing all the news about Hime that he found Dangerous, for years we lived kinda like in a capsule with the only chance to get real infos through the Internet(like the famous one of the Villa party in Sardegna, which came from South America's Tv-News)..He DID ruin the country by having kept the whole Nation in a Stop for years, not able to make any acceotable Change in our Economy, too busy using the System to solve HIS personal and finacial controversies(in Italy once you get in Politic you're pretty much untouchable, from there his decison to go into politic, back in early 90's)...I agree with you bout private lives issues, but these were not private at all,for he showed all his girls in the programmes he let them do(after they paid, you know how)....and a lot more, but last but not least..what Mario Monti HAD to do,when he got in charge, was to apply the laws that the BERLUSCONI Government couldn't make(but aready decided to do)..so,in some ways,Monti had to do the Dirty Job,as they say...there you go again,Berlusconi now puts up a new show and speaks like He wants to save us,but I tell you I've been living 40 years in Italy, and saw the last 20,if Berlusconi gets in charge again,it will not only be a Problem for Italy, but for a lot more People,in the long distance, cause now his Goal is to change the National law and become even president...once he gets there and his Party in charge.......do i have to say more?

He has begun to lose his marbles now. The other day Berlusconi turned up at a political rally and supported the left wing candidate!
"Vote Paolo," he said - only to be told that Paolo was standing against Mr Berlusconi's right wing Forza Italia candidate. Surely Berlusconi must have seen the flags, posters, colours of the bunting, etc etc.
After an aide noticed they were in the wrong place, they quickly went away. Italia's mayoral candidate, Tecla Fraschini, was holding a campaign event at a nearby hall, http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-32946237
Berlusconi announced plans for a political comeback earlier this year, after the country's highest court upheld his acquittal on charges of underage sex and abuse of office in March.

Well, he'd certainly be an improvement over Renzi.

Tom | | | | | Berlusconi stayed 10 years in power and didn't do a single reform. At least Renzi is trying...

The only reform Berlusconi would have passed is to make parliament members legally immune for life, or passed a law to give him all tv and radio stations.
