Is it? I thought CT was as rabid about guns as MA is.

I hope your friends kids are ok, too. Geez, talk about killing off childhood innocence too early. My kid doesn't even know what a gun is yet....I can't imagine how kids that young process something like this.
When I was 18 getting a rifle or handgun was subject to a 7 day waiting period, and concealed carry permits were handed out freely to anyone 18+ who could pass a background check and complete a 2 day course. Hopefully that's about to change if it hasn't already...

I just heard that the dead shooter had a mother who was a teacher in the school. She is among the dead! It's just sickening what is happening!!!

He apparently also shot his father before going to the school.

Re: Connecticut primary school shootings

JFC on a pogo stick, I need to get off my computer as I'm about to travel tomorrow and all of the news stories have comments from nuts who think it's a conspiracy or a terrorist plot, then the email frenzy of the elementary parents in the town I'm living in is going totally crazy worried and asking about the security at our schools. I'm almost rooting for the Mayans....*sigh* gotta go finish cleaning and packing as I only sat down because my OH texted "CT " and replied, "What?" and he told me to go read the news.

Tom, I hope your sister is ok.

AND his mother.

saddest thing is, nothing is going to change. there will be much hand-wringing, the NRA and its paid politicians will once again defend the god given right of citizens to bear arms, and life will go back to normal until the next mass shooting...

My daughter phoned her, lockdown at her school in Danbury, and hiding the news from the students.

Seems they now say he was 24, not 20.

Mother was the kindergarden teacher, killed her and all her class.

I've also read that his facebook account is being used by another to make it seem like it isn't him.

No conclusion jumping until the official reports.

There's so much conflicting and downright odd info going back and forth. Obama is speaking now...

Re: Connecticut primary school shootings

I think Andy Borowitz said it best on Twitter:

Maybe I'm a dreamer, but I wish mental health care were as easy to get as, say, a gun.

This is so incredibly sad. Kindergarten kids killed. And it makes me angry - if you want to have a gun, yeah, ok. But wtf does someone need 100 rounds of ammo with a hand gun? As someone else said on FB, it seems that the people disagreeing most strongly with gun control are the same people who also seem to be against mental health care.

Have to turn off the news media, but the talking heads are sooo empty.

That's a great quote. Unfortunately, though, I think mental illness isn't so easy to detect, especially in young people. (e.g. Is the goth kid who loves violent video games really insane -- or just being a teenager?).

I keep reading this thread as well as the news and feel like there is this heavy weight inside of me... as though my heart has fallen to the ground. I couldn't even think of anything to write. I just can't, for the life of me, understand how or why anyone could do such a thing.

As I think someone else mentioned earlier in this thread, my only hope is that this event will somehow really push the U.S. to pass stricter gun control laws... and do something to really try to get guns off the black market. I know that's not an easy task, but it's obvious that something needs to be done.

It wasn't a hand gun, it was an AR15 or similar, bullets were .223

Apparently shooter was living in Hoboken NJ. Doesn't matter what one states laws are when you can cross state borders so easily. Reform can only possibly work if across the country.

Horrible tragedy. Seems to point to a family problem (killed his father killed his mother). Why involve all theses kids. Senseless.

Re: Connecticut primary school shootings

Words cannot describe how heartbreaking this is, but the U.S needs to come to face on this one and finally do something. Gun control won't work (Finland) so how about violence control on T.V? Show more tits and less guns?

Re: Connecticut primary school shootings

This year in the US, 94,142 people have been shot. Of those, around 30,000 died, and the remainder were injured.

182 people have been shot today

Source....Brady Centre

As i just read somewhere, the US Gun Lobby already hate Obama. I wish he'd now give them a reason to hate him.
