Re: THE US Gun Control & Second Amendment Thread

You know what, you are 100% correct. It is a repetitive thread, and a topic that has been done to death. I will do my best to refrain from comment on this topic in the future unless I have something new to add.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't mean to lash out at you personally. I appreciate all you guys do to keep things neat and tidy.

Re: THE US Gun Control & Second Amendment Thread

OK. So, I admit I don't know much about guns, but this strikes me as one of the stupidest things I have ever heard ... regardless of which side of the gun control argument you are on:

"As a result, he [Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo of New York] said, he and legislative leaders were negotiating language that would continue to allow the sale of magazines holding up to 10 rounds, but still forbid New Yorkers from loading more than 7 rounds into those magazines. "

Another case for the US gun control debate.

Sad story of a 5yr. old boy in Kuntucky, who shot his 2yr. old sister dead in the family home, with a 'made for children' rifle, that he had received previously as a present.

The mother reported that the rifle was left in the corner of the room, but didn't realise it was loaded.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...rst-rifle.html

I didn't even have a spud gun, until I was older than five.

Just watched the news. When you look at the place they live, well, white trash would probably be the correct term. Which does not mean I do not consider it a tragedy. But I'm not surprised they let their kids handle guns.

I'm glad you wrote what I was thinking - you've got a better chance of getting away with it.

This is more an argument against basic human stupidity (the true cause of the tragedy) than the gun (the method used), IMO. Very Sad.

Yeah sorry. I got the quote wrong. It's not one I use myself.

It's:

"Guns don't kill people. Five year olds are kill people"

Better?

More children die in swimming pool accidents than with guns...

Let's start a thread about/crusade against that.

Re: Another case for the US gun control debate.

This is really sad on so many different levels I don't know where to start.
  • Buying a rifle for a 5 year old
  • Leaving a loaded rifle in the same room with two kids

Oh, I guess I did know where to start after all.

Because swimming pools, dogs and ovens (and Kinder eggs) are specifically designed to wound and kill people.

Re: Another case for the US gun control debate.

We had guns in our house when I was 5 years old because both of my parents entered shooting competitions. They weren't locked up, but the ammo was not stored in the same place (actually I still don't know where it was kept). Rather, my brother and I were educated about them. How to check if they are loaded, how to handle, and most importantly that they are not toys and never to be pointed at people unless your life is in imminent danger.

My first job was at a gun range at age 8, running scoresheets for tournaments back to the clubhouse. Yeah, no cell phones or digital communications in those days. Cheap child labor instead.

Unfortunately many of the gun rights nutjobs do not educate their children and supervise them sufficiently. It is your job as the parent to check, double-check, and triple-check that the ammo and gun are not together, and that your kids clearly understand guns are weapons.

/off soapbox for now
