There is zero identifying text. | Quote: | | | | | | | | | | That wasnt india. Salvo Sports is an Indonesian company, as witnessed by the fact that it says 'Made in Indonesia' on it, and it is widely reported as being Indonesian, not India. I agree it is sexist, but lets not lump all the Asians together. | Quote: | | | | | CHENNAI: If one goes by the latest statistics of National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), every day 93 women are being raped in the country.
According to NCRB data, there is a gradual increase in the number of rapes reported in India - from 24,923 in 2012 to 33,707 in 2013.
Despite of several protests after Nirbhaya incident in New Delhi, the national capital continuous to be the unsafe city in the country. The number of rapes in Delhi has almost doubled from 585 in 2012 to 1,441 in 2013. Delhi is followed by Mumbai (391), Jaipur (192) and Pune (171) among the top unsafe cities in the country.

Rape does happen in other countries and maybe even more than in India but what I find most disturbing is that you want to brush it under the carpet and stop people from seeing/discussing it. I don't think that the documentary did as much damage to India's image as much as the governments ban did. | | | | | | Quote: | | | | | Obviously it is not that "rare" as we are reading more and more cases in the international press, whereas before it was simply covered up. Shame! | | | | | 93 women being raped is a lot of women, and it should be stamped out, absolutely. But that is reported rapes, not necessarily all rapes. There is probably far more then 93. Considering familial 'honour' and its importance in India, i think the number is probably many fold higher.
The rise in the number of rapes could be attributed to a rise in the reported number, not in the absolute number of rapes. The count could actually be going down, we don't know. All we know is that more and more are feeling brave enough to report it. The same logic can be used to show that the numbers you give for the cities are equally suspect.
Rarity is a matter of relativity. 100 rapes a day in a population of 10,000 is not rare at all, but in a population of 1.5 billion (probably more), it certainly becomes rarer. Keep that in mind when saying it isn't rare.

| | | | | Premi - India, Bangladesh and Pakistan are culturally the same place - or at least they were until the British screwed things up followed by some Islamic extremists in Pakistan including Zia.
A lot of people have family in both countries.

Having spent 3 years in India i think I can safely say there is a severe lack of understanding of the Indian culture in this thread.
Sad..

1 person being racist doesn't mean you have to stoop to their level, does it??

I believe Loz was being amusing (I can't spell humerus tonight), & not racial.
Anyway I am not upset, but I would have liked to get rid of Premi, not particularly because he was racist towards me: but he has collected a lot of groans on this thread, mainly by trying to brush over this serious attack, as being an everyday occurrence, and not worth talking about.
Well Premi it isn't everyday that a victim gets her intestines pulled out of her vagina, and thrown away is it? You do know that she died a week later don't you? It was not just a rape, it was a vicious sexual murder with a tool used for loosening the wheel nuts on a bus, a long round-shaped, straight rod. Can you imagine that being pushed into you and then stirred about? That is what killed her, they split her guts.

Grow up. | | | | | Paki. Short for Pakistani.
Aussie. Short for Australian.
Brit. Short for British.
Saffer. Short for South African.
Zim. Short for Zimbabwean.
Jap. Short for Japanese.
Are you going to get excited about all those abbreviations, or just the first one, selectively?

Even a like you should notice the difference. | | | | | As I've never met you, I'm not quite sure why you consider me a " ". Do you just get into abuse for the sake of it? Very mature. Poakistani - Pokey Stani
Pokey has two meanings
1. Rather stuffy and small and not very nice
2. Jail
In either case it is derogatory to the good friends of Premi to the north of his birth country. Barngladesh - Barn Gladesh
Implication - Bangladesh is nothing more than a barn. Also derogatory.
As someone who considers themselves an English writer, I'd have thought it was rather obvious. Perhaps a change in career is indicated, if you can't spot very basic plays on words.
