The judge allowed Pistorius to remain on bail ahead of sentencing which is to take place on 13 October.

He is screaming his head off in anger, but claims he never heard her call out from the bathroom. Then fires four times, why not once?

I really hope he gets at least 10 years!

They find live ammunition in his house, and he is not guilty?

Maybe the prosecution will appeal, I really hope so!

Re: Oscar Pistorius arrested

I have a feeling the judge is going to be lenient. One analyst interviewed by BBC (I think that's the channel I was on) said it will probably be around 7 years, reduced for time served, and then suspended as long as he behaves and doesn't get in trouble with the law again. Let's be realistic, it's not like this guy can reasonably be put in with a normal prison population.

Of those screaming off with his head etc, how many of you have lived in RSA for more than 6 months.... for the "live ammunition" comment , well of course he has live ammunition at home , he has a gun at home along with nearly everyone else.
We had several hand guns, combat shotguns and hunting rifles in the house, its perfectly normal.

Re: Oscar Pistorius arrested

From a BBC News article

Quote:
Pathologist Gert Saayman described how Ms Steenkamp was shot three times, in the head, pelvis and arm. "Black talon" ammunition - bullets that open up into a petal-like shape on impact "designed to cause maximum damage" were used, he said.
Not sure why that type of ammo is necessary as I'm pretty sure shots with standard bullets would be enough to stop a would-be intruder or attacker.

Re: Oscar Pistorius arrested

Full metal jacket or "plain" rounds often pass straight through. If an attacker is enraged enough they keep coming. With hollow points they expand on impact with tissue and impart the maximum amount of energy to the target, a 1 shot stop. There is a lot of media hype over this black talon round but there have been tests that show the differences between it and other hollow point rounds are similar. The rifle version is slightly different .

I seem to remember that not paying one`s TV licence was also around 7 years jail time?

Why should he NOT be put in a normal prison population?
He`s a rich white(ish) guy, what makes him different from the rest of the (murderous) prison population?

Probably he`d be safer locked up in a prison - he`s not going to be a very happy chappy walking around free.

Re: Oscar Pistorius arrested

What a ridiculous verdict. Basically the guy:
  • Had an argument with his wife. On valentines day.
  • Shot through a door where there was logically no-one else inside other than his girlfriend
  • Has a known temper
  • Has a history of firing guns in public places

On what planet (rhetorical) would a judge believe this BS story that he thought there was someone else in there. His girlfriend would have told him if there was someone else there, it would have been beyond any reasonable doubt. He got away with murder.

Could be .... the judge has been compensated......? It`s not unknown or unheard of happening. Especially when involving rich people and influential lawyers. Think 3rd world country.

I highly doubt she was compensated in a case this large or public.

When the president of the country enriches himself with aid money, you think lesser folk don`t do the same?
The entire system in South Africa is corrupt - rotten from the inside out, and outside in.
The only ruling system now is chaos.

There was insufficient proof that he intended to kill her.

Oddly enough, if she'd survived, I wonder if an attempted murder charge would have stuck and actually got a harsher sentence.

He has a wife? Somebody should have mentioned that to the judge.
