Come on. NK aren't going to complain much when their only friendly neighbour comes calling.

Yeah you're right, maybe they could open trade agreements for the Nissan Qashqai.

Re: North Korea Leader Ready For 'All-Out War'

the bbc say
"The missile reached an altitude of about 770km (478 miles),"

isn't that outerspace? doesn't space start at 100km, so North Korea can now hit the ISS (only 400km from earth)

think the bbc need to do some fact checking

I had the same thought when he fired the one earlier in September (how high??? Nah, surely not, must be a typo...).

Why do they have to fly so high?

for distance, flight in space doesn't use fuel, re-entry doesn't use a lot of fuel either

That is why they use the rocket part of icbm's to launch satellites because they have the range and power.

As was mentioned, once they are in space then there is no air to slow it down so no more fuel needed.

so do you think the US is pissed about the nuclear part, or pissed that north korea actually has the capacity to launch satellites into orbit?

Re: North Korea Leader Ready For 'All-Out War'

also the reason why NK doesn't really have a viable nuclear threat against the US.

they can get the missile up and have miniaturised the nuclear warhead, but i doubt they have got the technology to have the warhead survive re-entry nor the technology to steer the warhead to its target (though i guess they don't need to be too accurate).

" I guess they don't need to be too accurate" That is really the basic issue with anti missile systems.

Basically you have to hit the icbm before it has re-entered from space otherwise it is likely to be not so far away from you and if then the nuclear head explodes it will do a lot of damage.

Currently the ground based anti missile systems were located with Russia in mind in places like Alaska so may not be optimally located for N. Korea.
There are ship based systems which are much more flexible.

Do you think Kim scampers off to his bunker a good distance from Pyongyang for a couple of days on the off chance that there's a retaliation for his reckless behaviour, leaving his poor, hapless population unwittingly staring down the barrel of the gun?

Scumbag.

I wonder what would be the repercussions if Japan were to shoot down one of NK's missiles before it reached their coastline, or would it have been too high an altitude by then?

Saw this at about 3am via an acquaintance's fb post saying they were being told to take shelter in the cellar, so he would be out of contact for a little while. He's a teacher in Japan. So I turned on the news and saw that this advice had been given out across Japanese media, and the Japanese Premier was on the phone to Washington. This was the first time that I've believed retaliation was possibly imminent.

You probably don't need to be accurate at all. An EMP covers a big area and would wreak havoc with today's infrastructure, kill most transport and communication.

In theory. It's never actually been tested in a real situation.

Re: North Korea Leader Ready For 'All-Out War'

Donald Trump has threatened to “totally destroy” North Korea in a bellicose first address to the UN general assembly, in which he lashed out at a litany of US adversaries, calling on “righteous” nations to confront them.
