Fair enough, you raise good points.

Still dont understand why people care so much about the baby though. Are we supposed to be happy that william and kate arent impotent?
No, you miss the point.

Minions are supposed to praise the elitist royals and thank and worship their greatness and contribution to society and all their hard work, because lets face it, everyone loves a royal.

Because the baby is being born to the future King and Queen and will one day be the king or Queen themselves?

I get that but i still dont see why so many people are invested in it...i mean, there was a time when the monarcy held a lot of power, and so interest in the royal family was understandable. These days though, they're more administerial then anything else...so why the clamour?

What I don't understand is why people who are not interested in something insist on reading about and commenting on it. It's quite simple to ignore this thread rather than try to bash people for wanting to know about the royal birth. Start your own thread and leave people alone here who want to chat about it. Always so frustrating.

Its a slow Monday.

Millions have the choice to praise the royals and thank them for thier contribution to society and all their hard work, because lets face it, the majority loves a royal.

Maybe you are right.

Although the majority of Brits I know don't. But the Americans are fairly fixated and there is enough crowds of poor deluded folk who line the streets in awe.

These moments bring great sadness to me really. This fixation on elitism is rather perverse and prolongs the ills of this world.

What's funny is that what you and other people seemingly wholly ignorant of the facts, is that the Royal family generate over 500m in revenue for Britain every year, well in excess of what they receive from the taxpayers.

Then you factor in the hundreds of millions they pump into the economy through sales, and the millions of people who visit the various events held throughout the monarchs lifetimes who have to all stay somewhere, eat and drink while they visit out fair country. Oh, and not to mention the free media advertising we get, itself worth millions.

So basically, they serve many magnitudes more of a useful purpose to Britain than you and I (presuming we still paid taxes in that country, which we don't, which makes us doubly useless)... so stop regurgitating the same old nonsense about how they leech off of our money http://business.blogs.cnn.com/2012/0...y-pay-its-way/

Apologies for trying to understand your (misguided) viewpoint.

Seriously though, Connor, what difference does it make? why are people so emotionally invested? serious question...im genuinely curious.

It is only elitism to the minority who don't like the royals.

It may bring sadness to you but not to the majority.

A reminder for you

Maybe its because a young couple (who do seem genuinely nice), who are the future King and Queen are giving birth to the future King or Queen.

Its a happy event and if the birth of a child, an important one at that, is not a happy event then you must live in a very unhappy world.

Re: Kate (the Duchess of Cambridge) has gone into labour.

I'm not a massive "fan" of the Royal family - I don't fawn over every photo and scrap of news about them, but I think they (at least the new generation) do a great job of promoting the brand that is Britain - and it is a difficult job, I for one would not want to be in their shoes.

As Richdog say's, they are great for British business and tourism, Britain is unique in the world for having such a strong and well respected and loved Royal family. And the Swiss, in general, love Britain and the Royal family in particular and I don't mind admitting that the birth will be good for my business too this week.

Thanks Will and Kate for helping me earn my meagre crust.

But the cool thing is that the kid will be queen or king because she or he is first out, regardless of gender. Hope it goes well! I'll be in the UK end of the week - looking forward to craziness.

Well that's because the majority are pretty damn stupid and don't know their history and liken their fondness to championing a real life fairy tale.

But of course it is elitism and it is precisely the majaority mindset that saddens me and why we as a society allow such shit.

Firstly, ftfy.

The birth of a child is a happy event for those directly invovled. I dont think the brith of this child, however, is anything to get excited about. Plenty will be born on the same day, some of whom will probably make a difference to other people lives in much more important ways. If this child goes on to make a difference in the lives of those who suffer, then i will consider that royal to be a great bastion of britishness.

My question: why is this child more 'important' (your words) then the countless others born on the same day?
Is the child anything other then exactly the same as the hundreds of other being born on the same day? Does this child being born bring a positive effect for humanity?

You are either.
  1. Stupid (in the nicest possible way)
  2. Taking the piss.

Which is it?

This child will be the future King or Queen, how many of the other children born on the same day will have that on their CV?
