Kate (the Duchess of Cambridge) has gone into labour.

For the royal watchers and baby lovers out there, the Duchess of Cambridge has been admitted into hospital in the first stages of labour.

Not sure the papers and press realise how little I, and probably others, care about this

Hope she and all the other ladies have a trouble free labour and delivery

They also generate a lot more in revenue than they cost in tax.

What's funny is that what you and other people seemingly wholly ignorant of the facts, is that the Royal family generate over 500m in revenue for Britain every year, well in excess of what they receive from the taxpayers.

Then you factor in the hundreds of millions they pump into the economy through sales, and the millions of people who visit the various events held throughout the monarchs lifetimes who have to all stay somewhere, eat and drink while they visit out fair country. Oh, and not to mention the free media advertising we get, itself worth millions.

So basically, they serve many magnitudes more of a useful purpose to Britain than you and I (presuming we still paid taxes in that country, which we don't, which makes us doubly useless)... so stop regurgitating the same old nonsense about how they leech off of our money http://business.blogs.cnn.com/2012/0...y-pay-its-way/

Good luck to her and William.

The Royal family have come on leaps and bounds in the past 10 years thanks to William and Harry.

Hopefully the next generation will continue this trend.

Baby Queen on her way?

Put it this way, I can't see anyone getting excited over Michelle Obama getting pregnant, or any other president's wife. But a new royal baby to continue a living link with British history is something else. Give me a King/Queen over a President any day.

So, all being well, we will have a new little princess or prince, hopefully today (for Kate's sake!).

Good luck to Kate, William and their long-awaited son or daughter. Such good news!

Well yeah, and of course by the time most guys become presidents, their wives are too old to have kids. More about marrying kids off in the white house. Jacqueline Kennedy was the last pregnant wife of a president.

At any rate, hope she has a smooth and uncomplicated birth.

Fair enough, you raise good points.

Still dont understand why people care so much about the baby though. Are we supposed to be happy that william and kate arent impotent?

Re: Kate (the Duchess of Cambridge) has gone into labour.

What to look forward to....

weeks of gushing and fawning at every possible opportunity by the uk media.

Stupid reports such as "how did this happen" think thats bloody damn obvious ... she got her tatas out again (not in view of a camera) and he googled her youtube.

cheapo tat plates from the royal mint and other "memorabilia"

Think ill watch Al Jazeera for my world news for the next weeks.

the mind boggles.

Yes of course, the reason for celebrating the birth of a child is simply because it proves the parents are not impotent.

Why do you bother posting things that make you sound so, well, ignorant?

Because the baby is being born to the future King and Queen and will one day be the king or Queen themselves?

Re: Kate (the Duchess of Cambridge) has gone into labour.

What I don't understand is why people who are not interested in something insist on reading about and commenting on it. It's quite simple to ignore this thread rather than try to bash people for wanting to know about the royal birth. Start your own thread and leave people alone here who want to chat about it. Always so frustrating.

That was a useful and well thought out post. As a result, i have completely reversed my opinion on how a single child born into a nation of 65million will actually improve the lives of those 65 million. Well done, you.
