Redwell Beer legal fight. What a load of Red Bull

Red Bull believe that a small craft brewery in Redwell Street in Norwich, England, will confuse Red Bull consumers with their name of Redwell.... and they have told them in no uncertain terms to change their name.

So, Red Bull drinkers on EF, are you confused?

Some great comments on their FB page

https://www.facebook.com/redwellbeer.

Story here.

Yes it's extremely confusing. Bonus is that at least I'd have a good excuse for cracking open a beer in the office at 8am

What about the red bellied woodpecker, the red billed chough (another bird), the red bell pepper, red ball (an online game)???

Will nothing red be safe?

Re: Redwell Beer legal fight. What a load of Red Bull

It's not like the packaging is remotely like the Red Bull branding.

I guess it's Red Bull's comment on the intelligence of their consumers.

Re: Redwell Beer legal fight. What a load of Red Bull

More corporate lawyers looking for an excuse to bleed their wealthy clients of a few quid, when times are hard.

- I can read
- I can tell the difference between a bottle and a can
- I am familiar with Red Bull package design and logo, and avoid it in favour of beer (normally kept separate in stores)

If Red Bull decide to make a beer, will Redwell slap them with an injunction?

Yes, but only because it got reported in most of the UK daily rags, and there was a considerable consumer backlash towards the action by Red Bull.

Without that you can bet Red Bull would have continued using it's bullying tactics.

Social Media also had a part to play with lots of comments on Facebook. The brewery's small FB fan page tripled their number of fans yesterday afternoon with many comments being left on, and soon removed from, the Red Bull FB page.

Re: Redwell Beer legal fight. What a load of Red Bull

Am I the only one who finds it particularly ironic that it is Red Bull? I would expect something like this from any US MNC, say Coca Cola... but Red Bull?

For those not familiar with it - the Austrian founder of the brand travelled as a young man to Thailand where he saw some local canned carbonated and highly caffeinated drink called "Red Bull". The logo is two red bulls head to head in a yellow circle:

He made a blatant copy back home in Europe and became a Billionaire through clever extreme sport marketing.

If my entire company is based on "borrowing" somebody else's name, logo and product... how low is it to threaten others who don't even do anything near the same to you in this way?

Re: Redwell Beer legal fight. What a load of Red Bull

Would this injecten stand a chance before court or is Redbull just speculating that the small brewery is unwilling or unable to pay the legal costs and thus give in.

Interestingly Redbull was unable to prohit a Swiss distilary from selling RedBull Vodka (http://www.bullvodka.ch/de/produkte/redbullvodka/) because the distilary had already registered and used the brand name Bull Vodka (without a colour) before the market entry of Redbull.
