Ah but the snowboarding this morning was incredible.
The points system was somewhat strange though.

Oh no! What have the Russians done to points system? I hope this is fixable.

Thanks for the first sport-related comment

Only the Alpine Skiing and Bobsleigh/Luge/Skeleton. I skim through the rest for anything of interest.

I am not a fan of any of the sports that are based on judging. I like to see a clear winner

Absolutely...must indulge my quadrennial obsession with figure skating...the team competition was a nice little apero, though for next time I hope they ditch it as an experiment that didn't work.

El husbando & I have also discovered a previously unknown love of curling (something they never show in the US).

And I love the Swiss TV coverage! Coverage in the US has been absolutely horrible since NBC took over, but this is what I remember from my childhood when Jim McKay was at the helm on ABC.

I agree, but it's still nice to see a sport evolve into an Olympic discipline IMO.

Not the Russians, the IOC. Complain to them.

Looking forward hopefully to some ice skating too, although I'm watching pretty much everything else as well. But missed the Euro Championships due to Eurosport's nearly constant coverage of tennis and snooker. I read somewhere that the proposal might be to hold the individuals first and the team comp after next time around.

Thinking about installing BBC's iplayer as the OH gets the TV in the evenings - which is when the skating will be on of course; the end of the sessions at least. I'm hoping the Beeb may show some repeats the next day, but as the British aren't that good on ice skates it's a pretty small hope. Will wait and see what they do with the pairs skating and take it from there.

Watched some of the moguls yesterday, but all I can think of when watching is how painful a sport it looks to be. Akin to bronc/bull riding imho. I can't imagine why anyone would want to do it for fun.

Been also following the cross-country frenzy.
I must say, I was quite surprised to see so many falls and broken sticks.

Apparently the weather has warmed up and gotten the snow slushy, which didn't help the situation at the halfpipe either.

But that's ok, one of the Guardian's correspondents was told by a spokesperson, because "athletes like warm climate because they can go for a swim."

I suppose that's one of the hazards of holding the Winter olympics at a seaside beach resort.

Also, apparently, the "gay-free" Sochi used to be known as the "Brighton of the Black Sea" as it was a mecca for gay Russians during the Soviet era. Accordng to an interview with the gay owner of a gay cabaret in gay-free Sochi .

I'm only really interested in the alpine skiing and ice-hockey. The IIHF chartered 5 planes to fly over the NHL players for the games .

Did you see the women's slopestyle---barely any acceptable runs, the snow was terrible for the speed of the course and the landings. A Canadian medal potential might have broken her jaw of a scary bail (We only got TWO medals in that event!!).

Even the medal ceremony after, the presenters were sinking in the snow/slush!
