In my opinion, with all the hardware and intel nato is supplying to Ukraine, I would say that nato is de-facto at war with Russia. All that is missing is nato soldiers in UA. | | | | | Last I read it was "talking" and it's about jets the Ukranian pilots can fly meaning jets before 1990. Not confirmation if those jets are still operational or just valuable source of metals for recycling. Also no confirmation if some jets are being loaned yet. Anyway, those are USSR made jet aircraft, not NATO | Quote: | | | | Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has asked the European Union for jet fighters, and some EU countries plan to supply them, EU foreign-policy chief Josep Borrell said Sunday.
A person familiar with the talks later said that discussions are still continuing. The person said any planes would be supplied directly by EU member states and not funded through an arrangement announced earlier for the EU to finance weapons deliveries to Ukraine.
Mr. Borrell said that Mr. Kuleba had requested planes that Ukrainian Air Force pilots can fly. Ukraine's jet fighters are Soviet-built MiG and Sukhoi models.
Some current EU members that were once part of the USSR-led Warsaw Pact still fly such planes or have old ones parked. | | | | | https://www.wsj.com/livecoverage/rus...ME2keSkxfiaIpr | The following 2 users would like to thank Axa for this useful post:

Gents, brace yourselves. The sanctions have hit Russia's most competitive export industry

I’ll bet Putin takes this as a personal insult. The his can‘t go through without a reaction from Russia.

I do not know if this will actually happen but on Facebook today
"In a statement on Facebook, the Air Force Command of Ukraine's armed forces said the country will get 16 MiG-29 and 14 Su-25 planes from Bulgaria, 28 Mig-29 planes from Poland and another 12 MiG-29 jets from Slovakia"
Of course, if the Russians have bombed all the Ukraine airfields then what will UA do with the aircraft?

Instead of these it should be rather a few reapers with hellfires and civilian contractors piloting them, bought and hired on the free market, no NATO involved.

The Ukrainians have made a request and went ahead publicly claiming an agreement was reached. All three countries, Poland, Slovakia and Bulgaria were caught by surprise and are either not responding (Poland and Slovakia) or are officially saying it can't happen (Bulgaria's Su-25 are in really poor condition and Bulgaria can't give any of it's Mig 29 as it's a few hundred KM from the active war zone and Russian planes routinely enter it's airspace)

Economic news
Trading on Moscow Exchange's stock and derivatives sections will remain closed today.
The Russian ruble is now worth one US cent.
Law of unintended consequences strikes again as cryptocurrency prices are climbing after Russia's ruble sank to another record low and it is claimed many Russians are switching to crypto, especially tether which is somehow linked to the US $.
Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced capital control measures to stop an exodus of foreign businesses from the country, Russian state news agencies TASS and RIA reported.
Another unintended consequence, some are forecasting the central banks will delay their interest rate rises due to inflation.

2 - Wait for one to get shot down over NATO land.
3 - WWIII.

| | Re: World War 3 or just a local spat in Ukraine? | Quote: | | | | | Again a bit of keyboard strategy. I keep on wondering why the hell did he do it? And one possible explanation is that he essentially forced NATO into a mistake irrelevant of what NATO does. If NATO doesn't intervene (as now and his most likely planning scenario) he could crush the Ukrainians and then tell them "look, NATO can't protect you from me, they are only talk and no action. I can guarantee your safety with some conditions....". Reading some eastern-European forums and facebook posts I am shocked at the level of "support" for Putin with precisely this message "NATO is weak, they couldn't protect Ukraine". Partly trolls, for sure, but partly real people with a distorted view. If NATO does intervene, then he would have spinned the story about how he was right all along and NATO is a threat to him as it's an attacking alliance. This would have given him even more room to maneuver internally in Russia to basically strengthen the military even further. He could have even gone further by trying to forge some sort of anti-NATO coalition | | | | | Well, like all the WE countries, the EE countries have their own useful idiots. Russian propaganda is operating for over 20 years all over the world and that's why I don't understand why are you so surprised. There are thousands of Russian sites pretending they are impartial news sites and operating in local languages from various countries, what isn't clear here.....the freedom of speech was abused and used to justify the existence of Russian financed media outlets and internet sites and that is not even the biggest evil, the biggest evil is that the world has done business as usual with Putin's Russia without any conditions, as if they were all on the same side ideologically. They also fed another monster I shall not comment on this thread though, just watch it.
Anyways, these countries are unexpectedly and unprecedentedly in the best position they could have ever been (as our grandparents could have only wished or hoped to happen when they went almost through the same thing) being NATO members and EU members.
But...we (all) shouldn't abandon Ukraine because if we do that there will be long term consequences that you and me know very well all about. Ukrainians too. Our solidarity with UA is like a marathon, not a sprint. Prepare for a long, harsh and frustrating winter. I just saw an amazing interview with Kasparov, this man is risking his life for saying whatever he has to say and it's worth watching.
Happy First of March, btw. | This user would like to thank greenmount for this useful post:
