This is most likely driven by the fact that EU and Switzerland are in the "hostile countries" list and as such there might be risks to citizens from these countries while in Russia. These could range all the way from nationalists attacking them to Russia deciding to play hostage diplomacy.

It's a sensible thing to do, I wouldn't read more to it.
Not only (or not necessarily) that but it will be almost impossible to get out from there, or at best take a very long route back through some countries in Middle East etc

Dave, why did you groan me?

In this world of fake news and propaganda, I'd like to see a link to a reputable article mentioning what Vlad had written.

Can you give the childish name calling a rest please?

I can't believe people haven't figured out that you're not supposed to blog your way through a war. There's already been cases of locations being identified through innocuous photos.
All well and good defending your country, but leave the phone at home, or at least stick it in a Faraday pouch.
The blogs send the message, producing support. It's cost/benefit analysis.

Sure, but her point is there's huge uncertainty and flights could easily be cancelled in case of further escalations. The bottomline is that it's a sensible measure to ask citizens of countries on the "enemy list" to get back home as soon as feasible.

Sometimes it’s not what you say but how you say it that is the problem.

Maybe have a think about what you write and how you present things before posting?
i guess it could be that...or maybe the rules aren't enforced equally and certain people are offered much more leniency than others

Seeing media reports that the Russians ate attempting to recruit mercenaries from the middle east.

I hope the realise that the maximum temperatures in the Ukraine rarely exceed 0C.

Another tactic from the Putin playbook. Turkey blocked the Dardanelles last weekend, thereby cutting of their supply line from Syria, so Russia tried to make Greece hostile to Ukraine.

I think it´s only a matter of time; not if nato goes to war with russia but when.
I predict that by summer it´s going to be over, one way or another.

But think about this, it war were to break out in the next few weeks at the beginning of the seed and growing season. Europe will be starving by the winter.
Also the German Außenminister Annalena Baerbock, (a woman whom I thought as a mere "Quotenfrau" ) said something very profound today in the news...:
"If Germany were to cut all gas and oil supplies from Russia, we would, as a nation, grind to a standstill within six weeks."
I´m paraphrasing, but that statement is the takeaway.

Re: World War 3 or just a local spat in Ukraine?

Has anyone read anything half-convincing about the origins or purpose of "Z"?

All I have seen on this was at best half-baked guessing. It seems to take off and gain popularity with Russians as well as some alt-right folk in the West. Feels like a mix of Q and the Swastika to me. Hail!

Z recognises the pervasive Western influence, the Russian alphabet is used to write Russian words. It was derived from Cyrillic script

Well, maybe that's how it started. But for sure seems to have become much more. There was a video on Twittter with a bunch of state-organized youth in Russia wearing kit with the Z and essentially throwing Heil Hitler arms.

Judging by the level of preparedness of the whole war and the most simple explanation available, this was probably the simplest way to spray a differentiating symbol vs. the Ukrainian hardware. I personally don't think there's more to it.
