Yes, it is not going to be easy, and calls for some form of government actions will get louder.

That said, I have a hunch what you actually want to say is something else. Something to do with why should we support Ukraine at all. Maybe that is an unfair and wrong assumption, I don't know.

Still waiting for your strategic analysis of the Russian warplans btw.
strategic analysis? i think ukraine has been abandoned and i believe russia will slowly but surely take, at least, some of the country. in the end putin will probably get something close to what he originally wanted.
after that, who knows? maybe they will install their own puppet government or maybe they will use parts of Ukraine as a bargaining chip.

That you can take for granted. It will be covered in something to do with "humanitarian aid", Lavrov style.

Looks like the Russkies are wizening up a bit. They seem to be going for the arms shipments.
I was wondering when that would happen, letīs hope they donīt go about it too enthusiastically and whack some Nato guys in the process.
Strange military strategy, they should have been attacking the supply lines from day one.

Arrogance I suppose, they expected to crush the Ukrainian army in days so did not need to worry about their supplies.

The tanks didn't look like they had much infantry support. That was suicidal even back in WW2 days.

Whoever planned this would have been immediately shot back then - if that hasn't happened already.

It's 2022 and once you invade a country, you're not going to face the Polish cavalry anymore, like we Germans did in 1939.

Ah, and trucks and trains with goods to Russia pass unabated through EU/Belarus border. No panic...

They did up to 20 of them and some were successful, never against tanks though as the legend goes but against infantry, the very thing cavalry charges were designed for.

Re: World War 3 or just a local spat in Ukraine?

The footage on Twitter on how Russian police are cracking down on any sort of "protest" is unbearable. A woman gets arrested for showing a blank white paper, another for showing a paper that literally says " two words".

The Econonist has it right, and also discovered what Z means.

Putin has always said that the biggest global issue we're having is the fall of the Soviet Union.
Soon the biggest global issue will be the fall of Russia.

The trucks are being blocked by volunteers. 28 km traffic jam already.

I think, Ukraine will end the same way as Bosnia & Herzegovina. the worst possible solution for people living there....
and people will just not return to Ukraine, look what happened in Croatia. places that were devastated as some cities in Ukraine now, have not relived yet (almost 30 years after war...)

so sad....

The mighty soviet army is unable to achieve it's objectives and is now using Belarus, Chechens, Syrians and soon China will jump in. This is already WWIII and I really hope the Chinese have a bit of sense in them and don't jump in

This is only WWIII IF Nato or China go in.

Re: World War 3 or just a local spat in Ukraine?

This news piece by Jeremy Bowen was moving, Kyiv university students given a few days training and expected to hold off advancing Russian soldiers.

It's an awful thought, but at what point would surrender not be a better option than putting some of your brightest prospects out as cannon fodder?

Re: World War 3 or just a local spat in Ukraine?

Listening to some old Vysotsky stuff, but my Russian is too poor to get the subtleties. Could someone proficient share some songs that would be fitting to the situation? Thanks.

PS: For some reason, I have a craving for the Russian soul ...

This is already WWIII
And the sooner the west realises it, the better. Would have been the best if they realised it in 2008 or earlier, but better later than never.

The captured Russian soldiers shown in the multiple videos are not that advanced and in addition completely demotivated.

The most mentioned in the last few weeks:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cstbuMZYt4
He sings about the German soldiers of the Army Group Centre, that are marching through Ukraine. The song is from a theater piece and is sung from the side of the Germany. The lyrics say that these soldiers will go to Heaven. Putin said once that in case of nuclear war Russians will go directly to Heaven and the rest will just die
