Ukraine strikes fuel depot in Russia

https://www.reuters.com/world/ukrain...ys-2022-04-01/

Terrible. It proves the Ukrainian aggression and lack of respect for Russia's territorial integrity.

By the way, many Russians also don't want to live in Russia. Over 700 000 left the country only since the beginning of the year. They flee to any country they still can legally enter. To Georgia, Armenia, Serbia, Turkey etc. I've heard that there are almost no free apartments left in the capital of Armenia.
But of course, all those who realised what happens there and could afford to leave have already left and the trend will continue. Perhaps they don't feel Putin's love neither any desire to be "re-educated".

Just come back from Alanya in Turkey, there are more Russians than Turks, in fact signs are in Turkish and Cyrillic.
So you were writing your correspondence from Turkey?

Alanya is in Antalya, a region where many Russians used to spend their holiday long before this war. I've been to Antalya once and it was full of Eastern Europeans, to the point you couldn't say anything without being understood by someone.

I suppose it depends on the contracts … Oh wait! He’s unilaterally suspended those.

If true, good for them for spreading the pain of war to the invaders. The article mentions helicopters, I am surprised they did not use drones. An explosion at a munitions depot in Belgorod plus a fuel depot fire in the same town seems to be too much of a coincidence to both be accidents.

The Taman oil terminal must be a tempting target only a couple of hundred Km away.

The news today that "Zelensky removes two top Ukrainian generals, says he does not have "time to deal with all the traitors"", I hope this will not reveal serious issues.

Edit: Friday bit! Media claims Russian troops have departed Chernobyl due to symptoms of radiation sickness. Hard to believe but the IEEA are investigating anyway. Of course, it is April 1st but I believe the claims were published before today.

It cannot be Ukrainian helicopters. Russia claimed that Ukrainian military aviation was completely destroyed in the first days of war.

Most probably not. Some say that the helicopters on the videos look more like Russian Ka-52. Also, Russia has air defence, no?

It can be a provocation in order to use more forces in Kharkiv region. Their new goal is to occupy as much of Eastern Ukraine as they can.

Probably Russian military helicopters who took a wrong turn somewhere

Ukraine did a clever move renaming the streets, towns etc as a part of decommunisation. Maybe Russian pilots just confused the addreses.

Maria Butina, member of Duma and formerly a Russian agent in the US, on Hardtalk with the Russian perspective. It is mind boggling, of course.

Why would Putin bother? He has been bombing the hell out of Ukraine for over a month without the need for a provocation.

Russian air defense versus helicopters flying very low and slow, probably not ideal situation.

Zelensky strips two Ukrainian generals of their military rank: ‘All traitors will be punished’

Polish PM interviewed last night by Christiane Amanpour didn't actually say he thought Ukraine would lose, but that's what it sounded like.

Realistic, I would say. Vova won't give in. Whether Russia actually will get into a position where they actually control the territory they are standing ob remains to be seen - but it is going to cost the Ukrainians. Read somewhere yesterday that Ukrainian GDP is expected to drop by 50% this year.

We are getting used to this war, here in our armchairs and becoming numb. But this is not getting better.

The soil is radioactive. Apparently they dug defensive trenches around the site which disturbed the soil.

International monitors detected higher levels of radiation after the initial taking of the power station. The explosives used also disturbed the soil, throwing it into the air.

Re: World War 3 or just a local spat in Ukraine?

This story about acute radiation sickness is total bullshit.

Western Europe is still losing it when someone just mentions Chernobyl or anything that smells of nuclear danger. I guess that is the socialization of the 80s, Pershing II, Chernobyl and requesting the US to commit to a "no first strike" doctrine.
