| | Re: World War 3 or just a local spat in Ukraine? | Quote: | | | | | I'd rather not see that, even if you meant it figuratively. Because revolutions are inherently violent, that's never a positive thing, much less in a country full of nukes. | | | | | Yes, I meant it figuratively, but honestly, how do you imagine for it to end without Putin and cronies killed/suicided/trialed?
Because if it will not end completely, we will just postpone another "denazification" of Finland/Moldova/Georgia or even Ukraine again.

"A staff member at #Azovstal betrayed Ukraine and told Russians about underground tunnels that lead to the plant. That's why they launched their attack yesterday and currently the Russians are trying to force their way onto Azovstal territory." :/

Many years ago I had a friend who was the project leader for building a multi million chemical plant in Siberia, it burnt down on one May 9, Victory day, while the workers ignored the automatic alarms.

Even the dissolution of the USSR happened peaceful, though that appears to have been on the brink of some form of revolution. Putin->Medvedev->Putin went fine as well.
As for Georgia, the responsible EU comission found that Georgia started the fights "with a very high probability". Which is as close to "definitely" you get without a smoking gun. You can't complain if you get invaded after opening fire on the neighbor, just like Russia will have no grounds to complain about open Ukrainian aggression once that starts (no, I'm not comparing the two).

-------------
"Russia on Wednesday said its forces had practised simulated nuclear-capable missile strikes in the western enclave of Kaliningrad, amid Moscow's military campaign in Ukraine.
During Wednesday's war games in the enclave on the Baltic Sea located between EU members Poland and Lithuania, Russia practised simulated "electronic launches" of nuclear-capable Iskander mobile ballistic missile systems, the defence ministry said in a statement." https://www.freepressjournal.in/worl...ingrad-enclave |

My point was that there is no need to use a derogatory term to describe a nation / ethnicity.

Russkyi also literally means Russian so I don't think it is deregatory at all.

And considering the fact that we are communicating in English language. It is a pejorative reference to the nation or ethnicity as a whole. See below. https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/Russki https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/Russki
The latter goes as far as classifying the expression as ethnic slur.

We did things differently back in the day. | | | | | Ageism have 2 sides. Usually the elder believe they have immunity to use it to feel superior. However, they get really offended if the young(er) point at the other side.

People talk about tactical nukes like they are just big toys but they are all more powerful than the Hiroshima bomb.

I think this thread is the last place on EF, where extra tension can be welcome.
It's not about growing a thicker skin, it's about the fact that words can be weapons. Information war, censorship...
