Re: World War 3 or just a local spat in Ukraine?

You can always find bad stories about such a enormous process as the draft of 300K people. The question is how widespread these events are and whether they get fixed quickly. I wonder if those rusty guns are already exchanged given the public noise.

LOL!

No doubt the Russian version of the tooth fairy is magically changing old guns into new

If they had not-rusty guns then they would have handed them out in the first place.

Good news. Expert on humanitarian aid with wide experienc in Syria and Mariupol now new logistics chief for Russian army. You can address the issue of rusty rifles to him.

On a more serious note, logistics are possibly the biggest reason why that army is so shit.

Russia replaces top general after mobilization call
The commander responsible for the army’s logistics and technical support has been relieved of his duties

Colonel General Mikhail Mizintsev has been appointed Russia’s deputy defense minister in charge of “material and technical support,” the ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

Mizintsev is replacing Army General Dmitry Bulgakov, who the Defense Ministry said is moving to an unspecified position.

The reshuffle comes three days after President Vladimir Putin ordered a partial call-up of reservists to bolster Russia’s military operation in Ukraine

The 60-year-old Mizintsev led Russia’s top military coordination agency, the National Defense Management Center, for eight years and oversaw the delivery of humanitarian aid during Moscow’s campaign against militants in Syria.

After Russia sent troops to Ukraine in February, Mizintsev began delivering briefings on humanitarian matters on the ground. He was also in charge of organizing the evacuation of civilians from Mariupol in March.

Who needs logistics when your army is so powerful can reach the North Sea in a week and thereafter live off the enormous generosity of the liberated peoples?

Who needs visa bans? Reports that Russian men age 18-65 will be not allowed to leave the country come Wednesday. The exception of course will be organized trips to Ukraine.

I really hope Putin turns the tables on the ultra-nationalists on TV who constantly called for escalation and mobilization to win the war. I would have loved it if they got delivered their call-up papers live on TV and see how hawkish they are when they are the ones who have to fight.

I saw that Snowden was finally granted a RU passport. Does anyone know whether naturalized persons are eligible/required to join the army?

This is interesting. Ukraine got invaded for not aligning to Putin's interests. Kazakhstan is basically doing today what Ukraine did some years ago. Do they have a death wish or not afraid anymore of Putin?

Perhaps you did not see the news reports where Xi Jinping President of the People's Republic of China came out strongly in favour of an independent Kazakhstan and implied they are under Chinese protection.

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday started his first foreign trip since the outbreak of the pandemic with a stop in Kazakhstan ahead of a summit with Russia’s Vladimir Putin

The Chinese leader promised to resolutely support Kazakhstan “in protecting its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, firmly support your ongoing reforms to ensure stability and development, and categorically oppose the interference of any forces in the internal affairs” of the country “no matter how the international situation changes.”

China has long had its eye on the vast mineral wealth of Siberia and would welcome an excuse to run a proper 5-day war.

Due to the Ukraine situation, the rest of the world would not put up much fuss especially if the resumption of the gas flow will be promised. Due to the war mobilisation the Siberian locals would likely not resist too much.
