Re: World War 3 or just a local spat in Ukraine?

From the FT ; "Avangardco challenges Crimea asset grabs;
The London-listed company plans court action after Crimean leaders revealed plans for a forced buyout of Avangardco’s local egg production factory
"

This will probably be just the first of many actions against the forced take overs by Russians of non-Russian owned companies in Crimea.
Of course the questions are around "which court" and "how will court decisions be enforced".
Probably people will wait to see how this action succeeds or not before starting court actions.

The biggest grab was the Russian take over of the Ukrainian navy which had no legal basis; the navy did not belong to Crimea but to Ukraine?

Many people outside Ukraine owned holiday homes in Crimea; it is hard to find out if they still own them or if they have been "nationalised".

Re: World War 3 or just a local spat in Ukraine?

Seems the "Little Green Men" have arrived en masse, just when the rebels were surrounded and on the verge of being destroyed. Also many reports of artillery barrages (and anti-aircraft) fired from inside Russia at Ukrainian troops. Looks like Putin isn't giving up without taking some piece of East Ukraine. Let's see if the West continues to turn a blind eye as Russian military intervention increases in Ukraine...

Quote:
Russian tanks, weaponry and fighters rolled into Lugansk, east Ukraine, just as the rebel-held city was poised to fall to government forces, Ukrainian officials claimed today.
There was no immediate independent confirmation of the claim which, if true, would be tantamount to an invasion of eastern Ukraine by Russia.

It would also gravely damage hopes for a peace deal ahead of a scheduled meeting between Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian leader Petro Poroshenko in Belarus on Monday.
'There are tanks, Grad artillery, APCs, accompanied by about 1,200 men dressed in the army uniform of Russian Federation,' said Igor Voronchenko, head of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) in the city.

As the article said; Swiss cheese makers don't make the volumes.

I know an organic farmer who approached a large German supermarket chain and offered his cheese; they asked if he could guarantee a container load every two weeks - a container load for him was more like a years production.

For some light relief the graffiti artists have been busy in Moscow, see photo of top of a skyscraper.

I like the Lenin painted in Ukraine's colors better (he looks so angry )...but since the other one was in Moscow, I guess that one wins

Re: World War 3 or just a local spat in Ukraine?

More evidence of active duty Russian troops inside Ukraine appears every day:

Quote:
'Ukrainian soldiers captured two armoured vehicles of Russia's Pskov Airborne division near Lugansk,' said security spokesman Andriy Lysenko, adding that the troops manning the vehicles had fled.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...s-Luhansk.html

Also, a good interview with some front-line troops, "We are not fighting separatists, we are fighting Russia":

Re: World War 3 or just a local spat in Ukraine?

Quote "The Russian state news agency RIA Novosti said that the first group of trucks had returned to Russia and that more were being inspected by Russian customs officials."

Funny in an ironic way. The Russians sent over 200 trucks into Ukraine completely ignoring Ukraine sovereignty, Customs and local laws.
The same trucks going home have to pass Russian Customs!

Re: World War 3 or just a local spat in Ukraine?

Here's a good live up-to-date map of Russia's invasion of Ukraine:

http://liveuamap.com

What's disturbing, is that now Russia is shelling areas outside of the current combat zones, ie: North and South of pro-Russian areas.

This shows Putin is not prepared to allow the rebels to be encircled and destroyed. It also shows a deeper involvement by Russian regular military, and is in-line with Putin's stated desire to take back the full Southern part of Ukraine outlined in Putin's "Novyrussia".

If the current conflict expands outside of the current zone, with clear Russian army involvement, it's going to set an irreversible course for Russia's integration with the international community.

It is delusional to think so IMHO. Any severe sanctions would be most needed now but nothing substantial happens. So were such a new status quo to happen then what do you expect if today little happens?

I see this going two ways, either Ukraine claims neutrality and withdraws from any further involvement with NATO, or Russia will create a puppet buffer state between it and Ukraine.

WW3 will kick off when the IS loonies manage to hijack every muslim state in the Mid-East and North Africa.

They will then turn their undivided attention to an attempt to wipe Israel from the face of the earth.

About "Ukraine claims neutrality and withdraws from any further involvement with NATO"
Ukraine has no involvement with NATO? They applied to join but were rejected in the NATO summit meeting in 2008!
No application since!!

About "Any severe sanctions would be most needed now but nothing substantial happens" I agree but equally I do not see that the EU can just sit back and ignore the situation.
I have no idea what the next step could be?

Probably the next step will be an alignment between Iraq and Iran Shia's to attempt to push back the ISIS invasion.

Re: World War 3 or just a local spat in Ukraine?

Russian paratroopers from Pskov just buried who were blown up during a "training exercise":

....by pure coincidence, just a few days ago:

Re: World War 3 or just a local spat in Ukraine?

"President Petro Poroshenko announced in a statement posted on his website that he has dissolved parliament and called for snap elections on October 26."

Well I suppose that if he does reach an agreement with Putin it will be easier if he does not have a Parliament that has to approve it!

"IS" in fact is as the name shows an organisation in Syria and in Iraq but not a "Pan Arab" matter. Strangely enough good for Israel as "IS" is bad for the Arab World, damaging Syria AND Iraq

Since when twitter became credible source of information? The twit shows no passports, no documents (in Ukrainian is written that the soldiers were captured with documents), not even names, just faces, how do you know they are Russian soldiers? Ah, probably by their look, they are not smiling, they must be Russians, russophobes don't need other proofs.

This twit says: "Here are ALL Russian Soldiers who were Taken POW today" and in Ukrainian is written that 10 soldiers were captured, but there is only 9 faces... That demonstrates credibility of such sources.
