Looks like Crimea again, Russian army rolls in handing out Russian passports and Rubles... | Quote: | | | | In a series of Tweets today, German MP and member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Marieluise Beck described the Russian occupation in Luhansk as she saw it – and the ominous signs of its potential annexation.
In the messages, Beck says that the city is “full of Russian soldiers,” and that an engineering brigade has already begun the reconstruction of infrastructure, including electrical lines, to Russia.
Beck also confirms that Russian passports are already being handed out in the city, and that Russian soldiers are distributing to locals cash sums of Russian currency.

| | Re: World War 3 or just a local spat in Ukraine? | Quote: | | | | | The Russian and the Estonian sides of the story are different in several important ways
The Russians say that he was captured on the Russian side of the border, with spying cameras. Russian officials believe the operation was some sort of covert espionage operation carried out by Estonia’s Security Police on behalf of NATO.
Hours after Obama promised the Baltic states that NATO will bring more troops there and would defend them against the Russian agression, incidents on the Russian border have started. By the way, at least for now Ukraine has stopped the fighting. Seems like Estonia will be the next victim of "the Russian agression"... | | | | | Must always laugh about the wording Govts use for such announcements. For example, what is a "spy camera" versus a normal camera?
Plus what is so important near the border that it needs to be photographed? I assume Estonia has no plans to invade Russia?

Actually the fate of Girkin is unknown - no credible source confirms the news from CrimeList.ru.

Russian oligarch Yevtushenkov under house arrest today; believed to be linked to the effect sanctions are having on the oil industry.
Yevtushenkov owns one of the few non-state owned oil companies in Russia; which is unlucky for him.
Criminal charges also recently raised against Ural Rakhimov who was involved in selling this company to Yevtushenkov; Ural is smart enough to live outside Russia.

Russia still covering up all attempts to investigate Russian soldiers who have been recently killed: | Quote: | | | | A BBC team has been attacked in the southern Russian city of Astrakhan.
We had gone to investigate reports of Russian servicemen being killed near the border with Ukraine.
As we left a cafe and approached our car, we were confronted and attacked by at least three aggressive individuals.
Using physical violence the men grabbed our camera, smashed it on the road, and then escaped with it in a getaway car. During the scuffle the BBC cameraman was knocked to the ground and beaten.
The team is now safe and back in Moscow. Following the attack, we spent more than four hours being questioned in a local police station. We discovered later that while we were there, back in the car some of our recording equipment had been tampered with. The hard drive of the main computer as well as several memory cards with video material had been wiped clean. | | | | | http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe...alflow_twitter |

"If I wanted, in two days I could have Russian troops not only in Kiev, but also in Riga, Vilnius, Tallinn, Warsaw and Bucharest," Mr Putin allegedly told President Petro Poroshenko of Ukraine, reported Süddeustche Zeitung, a German newspaper. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...ic-states.html | This user would like to thank jacek for this useful post:

| | World War 3 or just a local spat in Ukraine?
But he hasn't mention Berlin.
In communist Poland the art of reading newspapers was not about what was there, but figuring out what wasn't.

Ukraine shouldn't rely too much on EU support ... When will UK and Scotland votes get sorted out and back to daily businees so that we could concentrate on more serious enemy and threats now? http://www.charter97.org/en/news/2014/9/18/116364/

Europe for centuries always was PREwar. Trouble only that the size of the wars increased (German-French War 1870/71; WW-ONE : WW-TWO)

Actually, Putin does not eat or drink anything at public events, since he knows all very well what the consequences may be... | Quote: | | | | Russian President Vladimir Putin was the only participant of the quadrilateral summit that took place on August 26 in Minsk who, upon arrival to the National airport did not try the bread and salt, as per the old Slavic tradition. According to our source from the technical personnel of their airport, the treat for the Russian President had been prepared and checked by the security services. Traditional girls in national dress who were supposed to bring it to him were ready as well. However, at the last moment the order came to cancel the greeting. | | | | | http://euromaidanpress.com/2014/08/2...salt-in-minsk/ |

" The arrest of one of Russia's richest men last week was an attempt by President Vladimir Putin to protect himself from a palace coup, according to one of his most vocal critics.
The arrest of Vladimir Yevtushenkov was intended to send a message to any oligarch plotting moves against Putin, as the value of their assets drops in the wake of western sanctions
Russia's main stock market, Micex, has lost 6% of its value since the West tightened economic sanctions against Russia in July over its threat to the sovereignty of Ukraine, and the value of the rouble has fallen to all-time lows against the dollar."
I think Putin is too popular in Russia to fall by a coup unless the military take a major role.
