Re: World War 3 or just a local spat in Ukraine?

Russia's illegal bridge continues
Russia's bridge link with Crimea moves nearer to completion. Installation of railway arch above Kerch Strait is key phase in Kremlin’s plan to integrate peninsula seized from Ukraine.

Impressive piece of work this arch but only 35 metres above sea level. This is the part of the bridge that allows ships to pass under, Capesize and Panamax bulk carriers won’t be able to enter Azov sea anymore because of their height.
Most very large cargo ships are built to be up to 68M high to pass through the Suez Canal; 68M is a lot more than the Kerch Strait bridge which is 35M.

MINSK, September 6. /TASS/. The self-proclaimed People’s Republics of Donetsk and Lugansk support Russia’s proposal to deploy UN peacekeepers along the contact line in Donbass after the heavy weapons pullout and ceasefire, Boris Gryzlov, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the Contact Group seeking a peace solution to the conflict in eastern Ukraine, said on Wednesday.
This is strange. Ukraine has been asking for UN peacekeepers in Donbass since it was clear Russian troops were there and Ukraine had no chance to win the war. But Russia blocked the UN each time. Now suddenly, 2-3 years later Russia is asking for UN peacekeepers, and acting like it's their idea? This is very strange. There must be a catch somewhere....

Well, it's not like the Azov sea is the pinnacle of international commerce where huge ships need to sail through... I don't think that size of ships are sailing up to Rostov on Don so in the end, most inconvenienced is probably going to be Mariupol in Ukraine - take that you ungrateful fascists!

Please provide a source for the type of ships that visit the Azov sea today before the bridge?

Original Panamax ships have a draft of up to 12meters a Capsize of more than 20 meters.

The Kerch Strait is at its deepest (!) point only 18 meters. Good luck with a Capsisze ship. Additionally the canal which was dug out has a depth of 8 meters. Good look with an old school Panamax as well. Looks like Kerchmax is very close to Seawaymax. Mariupol - Chicago here we come.

Trump gives green light to selling lethal arms to Ukraine

Not surprising, hope it does not lead to escalation!

Wait, I thought Trump was friends with Putin and the Russians? Now he is selling guns to Ukrainians so they can kill Russian soldiers. I'll never understand this political stuff I guess...

Lots of countries which are in anti-terrorism coalitions sell weapons to terrorists. Nothing to see, move along.

Which ones do you mean?...in any case, I try not to believe any politicians lies.

What's ironic, is that Obama really disliked Putin and what he was doing in Ukraine, but only gave the Ukrainians blankets and "non-lethal" equipment. The Trump administration, who is repeatedly shown in the media as being "favorable" to Putin's Russia, is now actually starting to send the lethal weapons that Ukraine has been asking for, but Obama refused to give. Are you following the program?

You're saying sym-/antipathy is the reason for his decisions. Consequentially BO must have hated bin Laden, Iraqi and Yemenites as the drones murdered multiple thousands there.

Nope, doesn't compute.

Drones in war zones killed illegal, racist, Islamist combatants with reloately low civilian casualties. War is not the same as domestic law enforcement.

contrast and compare with the Russians & their allies in Ukraine. may more civilian casualties.

When did the US declare war on who? I don't mean some speech but an actual declaration of war.

Red herring and irrelevant. "I did nothing but he did even worse"

The U.S didn't declare war since 1945, but the rules of war still apply because this is only a formality. Killing Islamist fighters was legal and not a murder.

This thread is about Ukraine, not Yemen nor Iraq.

Legal under US law of course, that's a relative triviality. But illegal in many cases under international law, which makes them murders.

Let me let you in on a secret: Shooting at fighters in a war zone is legal.
