Re: Australia - what is going on?

I am also following this thread - Repercussions of Vote Already Starting...

So one solution to two problems, make voting manditory in Switzerland, it seems here that the more moderate, progressive very rarely vote (in my circle of Swiss friends no one votes and they have been horrified by a couple of the results but still don't vote!!). In Australia make voting optional, as the rednecks, bogans and punters would be too lazy to vote, whereas the more moderate, progressive, interested people would. (in my circle of Australian friends everyone votes and they have been horrified by a couple of the results but still don't understand how they let some people have vote!!)

This would be funny if it wasn't so close to how our Prime minister thinks.

I took this photo in Perth over the chrissy holidays. Normal, tasteless 'Field Grown' tomatoes.... wtf I said...

Kristina Maria has no particular reputation at present
Re: Australia - what is going on?

It really frightens me when I read and hear about all that is happening in Australia right now & at the same time I love that people are standing up, being heard and are clear, and positive and strong in their beliefs for an Australia that glows not just from the sunshine, but also as a country that people truly love, admire & feel happy to live in & visit.

There is so much scary stuff out there and yet at the same time, me, I'm really grateful that we have the possibility to know about it & hear about it, so that its out in the open and not kept in the dark - makes it much easier for us all to come together in a conscious way to move in the direction we would like to go.

After living in Europe for over 20 years now, I'm on my way back to Australia with my family & 'at a time like this' to start again.
Scares the living daylights out of me sometimes, and still I feel a sense of positive change slowly emerging ... I believe in a beautiful, abundant, carefree Australia ... times are a changing!

Unfortunately most of the population is not vocal hence the problems we have there.
Personally I would delay moving back or hold as much foreign currency as you can for a while, Australia is heading for a big crash, the companies that have announced they are shutting down is the tip of the iceberg, with the mad monk pulling the reigns this is only going to accelerate.

It's not odd,

If you saw the way the other guy behaved you'd understand.
Here's a short history:

Once upon a time in the land of Oz we had a midget leader with REALLY big eyebrows.
He took over from the previous government who ran us into the ditch big time. His solution was to sell everything and up taxes.
ohhh, but the people weren't happy about that. The country was in the black again but we had to sell our telecommunications network to do so.

Along comes K-Rudd and the lead singer from popular music band "Midnight Oil".... Yay !!!
.... but K-Rudd was a bit of a psycho, and even blamed the popular musician for all sorts of things.
His party voted him out and put in some chick.

We all hated the chick at first, because we didn't get to elect her (and she sounds terrible when she talks). We had never had a female leader before and all the elderly voters and misogynists plotted against her.

As it turns out, she wasn't too bad, but were we happy.... Nooooo

Voting time once again.

The chick was burnt at the stake and we all believed that a creationist beliving anti-feminist with no policy whatsoever might be better, but we were a bit confused.
The confusion led to the other party bringing the evil K-Rudd back which swiftly changed our minds.

..... and now we have this idiot in control.

and we still don't live happily ever after.

........ there are variations to this story of course, as politics and childrens stories often do.

IF YOU'RE AN AUSSIE YOU SHOULD REALLY WATCH THIS!

If that is the case I can see why Australia is going down. The only remedy I got from watching the first 2 minutes of that was some bikinis shots, otherwise it is sleep sleepy for me.

Re: Australia - what is going on?

There was movement at the station for the word had passed around.....

Now how do you unscramble an egg?
It will be interesting to see how this pans out but it will be too little too late regardless who gets the job (same for Shorten if he gets up next election).

I used to work in the oil and gas industry in the late 80s, a quote on the wall of my boss' office "Please let there be another oil boom, we promise to not piss it all up against the wall this time" , sadly this has happened again with current minerals prices. So many whatifs?

I can't see anything in the near future to change this in a major way? Your thoughts?

Re: Australia - what is going on?

A lot of Australian friends have expressed loathing at Abbott's tone and persona. They found it embarrassing, and it turns out many in his own party feel the same. It looks like they are trying to reel it back in.

With his bloody big 200K a year for the rest of his life paycheck.......We have been going down the road of the U.S for a while now.

Im back in Sydney every year to visit me folks and mates and each time everyone is dying to get out.

Sad really. Australia is my home. Born and bred true blue Aussie but I dont see myself heading back permanently any time soon.
