International Women's Day

On international women's day the WEF has released a report on equality around the world with Iceland coming out on top in overall equality.

Switzerland comes in at 9th, the UK 18th and the US is 23rd.

From here.

I think it's more of an awareness thing rather than a celebratory thing. Women are still fairly far down on the pecking order in many places and if it's not kept in the public interest nothing gets done.

We're all fine and dandy in these developed countries where we've pretty much got an equal opportunities thing going but there are places where some women seem to have a miserable existence on a daily basis.

"Retarded" would be turning a blind eye, don't you think?

Re: International Women's Day

It's interesting that countries which superficially seem so similar can have such different values.

My workplace recently created a special new category of secretarial staff with particularly low wages, the kind that need to be combined with a second income in order to survive. It is hosting various events today to make people aware of how much it values its female staff.

I think SR meant that equality should be a given by now and it's still not, and that's a shame (and thus the world is retarded).

Now start the OT discussion of the use of 'retard' .
