Punk is Dead

The last remaining Ramone has died:

http://bostonherald.com/entertainmen...k_band_dies_at

The Ramones were one of the defining bands of the New York punk scene which highly influenced the London punk explosion throwing up groups like The Clash and The Sex Pistols.

My record deck will be busy today...

Re: Punk is Dead

Nice (and short) article from The Guardian which mentions their seminal 1976 gigs in London which went a long way to kick-starting the London punk scene. (Good comment section, as always from The Guardian, too).

My earliest memories of The Ramones is listening to them on Radio Caroline in my dad's MGB in about '76.

End of another era...

Saw them in Edinburgh in the eighties - happy times.

For me it was, of course, the John Peel show - in 1977. "Sheena is a punk rocker" is still in the cellar, along with about 50 other precious punk singles. Dusted 'em off the other day while the family were out & annoyed the neighbours. Great stuff - we won't see its like again - if only because it can only shock you once.

Re: Punk is Dead

It seems that Martin Scorsese is interested to do a biopic about the Ramones.

Thanks, looking forward to it. Hopefully it's lean and mean and not full of overblown BS.

Ramones are an awesome band. Saw them twice towards the end of their mostly full original line up. Their fans made the live gigs, completely overexcited about seeing the band.
