won't be any cheques like this for a while in Zim, now that they've lobbed 10 zeros off the dollar...

Re: Zimbabwe / Mugabe

Riiiight, so the AU will go into the Comoros to get rid of an unelected leader by force and now drops Mauretania over the coup there as they said:

Quote:
"The coup is a serious setback for Mauritanians because it has robbed the people of their basic right to freely elect leaders of their own choice," said Tanzania's Foreign Minister Bernard Membe, who holds the AU's rotating presidency.
And yet they won't criticise Mugabe...?

Holy cow! The talks actually produced a result.

Let's hope that it will bring meaningful change to the lives of ordinary Zimbabweans.

There is a light in end of the tunnel for people of Africa:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008...we.southafrica

Let's hope it is tangible peace deal and the one leading to radical changes towards improvement. If it is another trick pulled by the ruling party then I do not wanna know it anymore...

Re: Zimbabwe / Mugabe

Apparently Mugabe has died at 93 tonight. The rumours resulting from breaking news must still be confirmed though. Media in Zim often used to serve such misleading news in the past as pulled a fast one.

Probably fake news. One site says he died in Singapore shortly after arrival for a medical check-up. Another says he arrived back in Zim on the 5th (and has a photo). Nothing being reported on any major sites in SA or the usual suspects like CNN or BBC.

Now he is back in Zim. His tireless "corpse" is doing a great job either way ...

It will be interesting to see who turns up to the funeral. Wonder if protocol dictates that one of the British royals will have to be there.

Early on he was hailed as a hero and a model for African leaders. Unfortunately he changed tactics and ran the country into the ground. I think there will be some nostalgic statements about the good he did early on, and he'll be remembered for having an impact. Not necessarily a good one in the long-term though.

"...The new regulations will apply to indigenous farmers..." meaning the sophisticated, educated white farmers who actually knew how to farm are not eligible. Moreover, guys who left and have re-settled into South Africa, New Zealand or even Australia are unlikely to ever go back. Zim will never in our lifetime be the farming powerhouse it once used to be and this is fine, people should always have reminders what stupid policies lead to. Sometimes the only purpose is to serve as a warning to others

Don’t forget that many indigenous farmers are white people as well. They were born in Africa and they know no other land than their farms in Zimbabwe.

Well, it took about 20 years to see disaster and it will take another 20 years to reverse the course. Hopefully, still in our lifetime.
