Not often one can say, that when I go to bed and wake up in the morning that a country could have fundamentally change forever.
In Cyprus 2 years ago you went to bed a millionaire and woke up with 100,000 euro only left. It can happen

Is it safe to say that Switzerland isn't nearly as nervous as other European countries at the outcome of this referendum? That's my impression, but I don't live there...

We work together here, so this break away concept is almost inconceivable.

Do the States in the US ever mutter about leaving the union?

On BBC TV they are talking about a 84% turnout - incredible!

Vermont does...But ethnically, Vermonters origins are about %25 Quebecois and %25 Scotsman, so what do you expect, it's in their blood to talk divorce and marriage at the same time.

That might be why Switzerland isn't worried. If the Louisianne territory is sold to the United States, within a generation or so everyone's speaking English. If France conquers your home or your home is given to France as some sort of deal, within a generation everyone is speaking French.

If Switzerland conquers a chunk of northern Italy in the 16th century, in the 21st century they're still speaking Italian. That may be why Sardinians are asking to join Switzerland instead of starting their own country. (Maybe Scotland can join them?)

Muttering, yes... Everyone likes to complain and talk about possibilities. But it is not serious.

Re: Voting for Scottish Independence?

If the BBC reports are accurate, it looks like Scotland will stay in the Union and the UK will remain the United Kingdom, but I think there will be changes made to make sure it stays united.

Disagree.

It's so easy to bury your head in the sand and dismiss the aspirations of a substantial portion of the Scottish electorate, as the establishment has done for centuries.

Scotland is part of the "union" by way of conquest and butchery.

Bet Robert the Bruce is turning in his grave tonight.
