If you are looking for knowledge about the middle east, LSE is not the place to go and this article is a good example : a collection of politically correct cliches without new insights or facts.

The sad fact is that ISIS, Assad and the other combatants are brutal murderers and whoever wins that war won't make things better for Syrians and their neighbors.
your last sentence is a cliche and hardly a new insight even though I agree with it

Re: Islamic State

Hi All,
It seems a lot of people are concerned by this subject, so here is a chance for you to help those caught up in the conflict who are least able to defend themselves, the children.
https://wemakeit.com/projects/safe-parks
This is a kickstarter style project, to set up a safe space in Lebanon for the refugee children of the Syrian conflict. They will be provided with play facilities to enable them to escape the emotional stress for a while, but they will also be provided with emotional support, and help to find members of their family, who may have lost contact due to the war.
The project will be run by the Swiss Foundation of the International Social Service in cooperation with their Lebanese partners:
http://www.ssiss.ch/
my wife is in responsible for setting up the project, so if you have any questions, let me know, private messages are also fine. Mods, if you would like me to move this post, let me know.
You can make a difference, please help!

I deeply honour the work of your wife, to do something about the ongoing tragedy in Syria, and am sure that Lebanon does, in conjunction with western partners everything possible. Brutal but realistic is that Syrians are WHITES and so better off in Europe than Tamils or Erîtreans as they at worst are just insulted as no ächli mee so Tschingge but otherwise will be integrated quite smoothly. But please encourage your wife to the very best as her Intention is good and Lebanon is a wonderful country

Re: Islamic State

Hi Wolli,
Thanks for your support!
I am proud of my wife, and all the things she has achieved in helping children in very difficult situations.
As you say, Lebanon is doing a lot to help, but with around 5 million displaced children, many in Lebanon, they are overwhelmed, and, sad to say, I don't think many of those 5 million will be offered refuge in Europe.
On a more positive note, since I posted on this forum, the amount pledged has risen, so thanks to anyone from here that pledged!
But there is still a way to go, to reach the target, so I urge you all to consider helping out, you can make a difference!
Thanks, Morph
edit: Just little info about the more wide-reaching aims, if you were thinking its just a playpark:
The first «safe parks» have been set up in cooperation with FICE South Africa for AIDS orphans. We have adapted the concept to the needs of Syrian refugee children. The offer will be continously adjusted and expanded, if other kinds of assistances are requested. The vast knowledge and transnational connections of the professionals involved will not only be beneficial to acutely affected children, but also be of inestimable value once the war is over, for example in the context of family reunifications.

I have been interested in knowing how to help, but the situation on the ground is quite confusing. It has been pretty discouraging to see foreign aid confuscated by terrorists, then distributed to people as if it were their charity and generousity. This is how they've gained a stronghold in the region, by redistributing charity aid, without having produced any of it themselves. How is this organization different, who and what is ISS?

Wolli, your inner racist really flared up on that post. Don't go around insulting Tamils and Eritreans please. I'm not seeing anyone else doing that.

Sorry, but didn't quite understand the "Tamils or Erîtreans" part. How are they relevant in this discourse?

Hi Phos,
A fair question, I would also be a little paranoid about that, but here are some facts:
There is a link to SSISS in my original post, but it stands for The Swiss Foundation for International Social Services.
They are a Swiss NGO, with their main focus on the rights of the child.
From their website:
The activities of ISS are legally based on a variety of Swiss Federal and Cantonal laws and international treaties on the protection of children and families. Some of these Agreements are listed below:
• Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989)
• International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (1966)
• International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (1966)
• Convention on Protection of Children and Co-operation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption (Concluded 29 May 1993)
• Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction (1980)
• Convention on Jurisdiction and Co-operation in Respect of the Protection of Children (1996)

They have partners in 140 countries. They are officially certified to be trustworthy by ZEWO (Schweizerische Zertifizierungsstelle für gemeinnützige Spenden sammelnde Organisationen, http://www.zewo.ch) and choose their partners carefully and make sure that they are confessionally and politically neutral. The project itself is also non-religious, non-denominational, and the rights of the child as spelled out in the above laws and conventions are of primary importance.

Lebanon has all my admiration for accepting over one million refuges from Syria, considering they are a country of only around 4 millions people. A lesson for others.

WHY is Dr Assad and his Ba'ath Party getting stronger by the day ? Because they offer some religious freedom, in spite of being ideologically dogmatic and dictatorial

and the relative political vacuum in the Arab Areas of Northern Iraq gives room for el-Douri and the Ba'ath Party

No foreign aid delivered to Lebanon was confiscated by anybody.

Yes, since ISIS started to act against Turkey, many Turks became angry

This interesting paper is based on interviews with jihadists in Syria and Iraq and supports the theory that there are different reasons why people join ISIS and other jihadis, and it seems that they break down to some extent on where they come from.

General Ibrahim el-Douri DEAD

That General Izzat Ibrahim el-Douri, the defacto leader of the Underground Ba'ath Party (Hizb al Ishtirakiya al Ba'ath al Arabi / Socialist Party of the Arab Reawakening) has got killed is very important News. Douri, in the expectation to get the upper-Hand in the longer-term, two years ago allied with ISIS. THIS was why the government Forces so quickly broke down in many Areas. The ISIS leader now no longer has a viable Partner on the Secularist side. And is in deep conflict with Shi'ite Arabs and Sunni Kurds. The pro-Ba'ath People will now try to find a new credible leader.

The Cards are re-arranged now

Ethiopian victims of the latest IS killings

This week has been the darkest week in recent history of Ethiopia. The country was worrying about its citizens who are trapped in Yemen under intense fighting and then violence broke out in south Africa which took the life of innocent Ethiopians.

Not these all is enough for my poor people, we had to learn the execution of around 30 Ethiopian Christians by evil IS in Libya on Sunday. The 30 Ethiopian Christians were given a chance to convert to Islam and get reward. They chose their Christianity and gave their life for what they believed in.
Heartbroken for my brothers who were shot in the desert without any witness and my heart is bleeding for my brothers who were beheaded in the bitch in the hand of these Animals. May God rest your sole!! you will be always remembered for your strength and determination to stay and die as Christians. And may God give sterngth for your mothers and families !!

While we are bleeding inside, business is as usual for those who committed the crime

I am convinced that the victims did the right choice, as the racists of ISIS would have found an alternative reason to kill them
