Re: Drone attacks

Seen what appears to be drone trialing/training here - can't confirm for definite, though, when they're approx. 1000m agl.

Two distinct plane engine noises heard - a deep rotary single engine and a higher pitch buzz.

On looking up, I could see the single engine mid-size utility plane flying quite slowly, then, after a bit of straining, a much smaller, sleek light coloured plane (drone) - forward and to the side.

Both were flying the same course and appeared to flying circuits.

I'm guessing that the drone 'pilot' was in the utility plane, controlling from within and the plane pilot could maintain visual contact. Also guessing that they were close behind, due to limited radio control range - probably don't want little Ueri on the ground playing with his remote control helo, to take control and bomb his school.

Re: Drone attacks

We're going to use a drone to check our guttering.

If we find any terrorists up there we'll be sure to let you all know.

Re: Drone attacks

Despite the (very) shallow delivery I donīt see why John Oliver is terrified of drones, he isnīt a terrorist.
Can you hear the outcry if manned planes were sent? Apart from the horrific cost of a F22, well, the horrific cost, period!
Nah! If you wanna kill somebody send a drone, far more efficiant, and if you look at it manned warplanes are on the way out anyway.

Killing who? Grannies, children... oh and anyone who is brown, male and tall, so that's ok then. They don't even know who they are killing- and you think it is funny. No wonder some youngsters become terrorists. The testimony of the young man who spent the best year of his life studying in the USA is ver moving- and so is the one whose family was killed.

Leave you to your sick jokes. And then some accuse me of being racist

To whom are you responding?

The whole TV clip is humorous - even if the subject matter isn't.

I've been searching for the last half hour and can't find the thread you started denouncing Hamas' random firing of rockets into Israel.

Did it get deleted?

Basically, it says that you mustn't get married under blue skies because it's terrifying when not knowing where the drone attack may come from, who commanded it and how many casualties in result

Re: Drone attacks

I mean, all war is mediated in some way, no one kills anyone with bare hands. If you're in a tank at night, studying the battlefield through an IR camera and firing the big gun... You're pretty far removed from things.

Brandon Bryant: I believe I killed a child in a drone strike
In a rare glimpse into a secret world, HARDtalk speaks to a former US drone operator, Brandon Bryant.

13 Apr 2015
He was picked to join one of the United States' most controversial and important military initiatives - the deployment of armed unmanned aerial vehicles - drones - to hunt down and kill some of America's most dangerous enemies. The experience has left him haunted and angry.

In this clip, Mr Bryant recalls how he believes a missile he fired killed a child, how the experience left him haunted, and he describes what he perceives is a lack of accountability for civilian casualties caused by drone strikes.

Re: Drone attacks

I wonder if it would be legal to crowdsource an educational purpose GPS and and other radio links jammer with a radar and active antenna system to to shut these drones out of their command and control center. Such non-lethal technology should be provides as a humanitarian aid to the victims.

I think we should be careful what we wish for, the alternative would be longer range missiles launched from the Persian Gulf with an even greater risk of civilian casualties.
