Re: Russia and NATO in the News

France will surely pay a hefty price for kowtowing to US/NATO's hypocritical opposition to self-determination*.

Mistral talks between France and Russia are over

* (i.e., the principle upon which the US originally established itself, but which Washington's current oligarchs find problematic as they persistently scheme towards the consolidation and domination of non-US peoples and political entities as a top priority)

How would this reasoning work in case of Chechnya?
It wouldn't: Crimea didn't have the many internal conflict factors behind the unrest in Chechnya, including infighting among multiple warlords and similar rivalry among various other internal political and religious factions. On the contrary, the Crimeans were almost unanimous in both their recoil from the violent coup that had just been instigated in Kiev, and their pro-Russian sentiment. There was no infighting among them, and virtually no blood was shed as they returned to the Russian fold from whence they had previously been forcibly detached.

So you're saying that if a certain territory and population want to peacefully join Russia, then fine, if there is an extremely violent conflict and civil war then Russia might invade this country and "help it", even if in Chechnya over 95% are Chechens?

Nope, I'm not saying anything remotely so simplistic (and I'll thank you for not trying to put such words in my mouth).

Re: Russia and NATO in the News

Quote:
Putin has signed decrees introducing procedures for state officials to submit their income and expenditure declarations. By July 1, officials are supposed to get rid of foreign shares, bank accounts and other assets.

Officials are also supposed to report major purchases, worth more than three times their annual salary, registered to themselves, their spouses and children under 18.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sponsored...-campaign.html

Interesting, in 2013 Putin signed a decree above...

...and last weekend, his personal spokesman Peskov was spotted wearing a $600,000 watch (4x his annual income)

Quote:
...strapped around Peskov’s right wrist was a Richard Mille RM 52-01, worth at least $620,000.

Such a watch is reportedly worth at least four times Peskov’s annual salary. The watch was not included in Peskov’s valuations of his income and property, Global Voices reported Sunday. The watch wasn't officially disclosed as a gift either, meaning where the watch came from and how Peskov came by it remains a mystery, at least publicly.
http://www.ibtimes.com/putin-spokesm...-watch-2035169

...that's the same Peskov who announced pay cuts earlier this year:

Quote:
Feb 27 Russian leader Vladimir Putin has decided to cut the salaries of members of the presidential administration by 10 percent, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was quoted as saying by Russian news agencies on Friday.

A Russian attack helicopter crashed yesterday on "Airborne Forces" day in Russia during a military competition and the pilot was killed.

This comes after last months missile misfire on "Navy Day".

Peskov has publicly answered where he got the watch, who have it to him -- did you see that? His fiancé/now wife is a celebrity, World, European and Olympic gold medalist, figure skater Tatiana Navka. She is still actively performing. Do you have any doubt that she can easily afford this watch and much more? Peskov said that this watch is a present from her, and it makes me angry that the press is writing about this as an example of Russian corruption...

Edit: I opened the link that you have posted, it's coming from Navalny -- the so-called anti corruption activist. He seems desperate for attention if he uses non-cases like this

She is a star performer and works in shows after leaving sport. She is a big celebrity in Russia. Would you have any questions to Federer if he wears this kind of watch?

No I would not question Federer but Tatiana does not seem to have appeared in any shows or films since 2010?

Of course she does She appeared in the big shows every year from 2006 except year 2011:
2006 -- Stars on ice
2007 -- Lednikovyi Period
2008 - Lednikovyi Period 2
2009 - Lednikovyi Period 3
2010 - Fire and Ice
2010 - Big city lights
2012 - Lednikovyi Period
2013 - Lednikovyi Period
2014 - Lednikovyi Period
For each season of Lednikovyi Period show or similar the star performers get paid over a million dollars -- at least this is what Pluschenko claims, and she is the star of the same size as Pluschenko. And these are only the big shows that she takes part in. She is a face of the company Oriflame. In the summer of 2015 she is performing in the 3-hour show on ice Carmen in Sochi which takes place now and goes for almost 2 months with huge success. She is active on TV. She earns millions each year and can buy any watch she wants

Peskov's photo with the watch was posted a couple of months ago. This bloody internet.
And his (now ex) wife has been having a good life in Paris, and the daughter in a private school elsewhere in France.

If he said it was a wedding gift, but had it months before he was married, then it seems he lied about it. Actually, that makes it worse, as he received a gift valued three times his salary and didn't report it. So he just publicly violated the law he announced 2 years ago that he said applies to all public officials (except him?).

Quote:
Officials are also supposed to report major purchases, worth more than three times their annual salary, registered to themselves, their spouses and children under 18.
...
price of the watch was four times greater than Peskov’s annual salary, according to official filings, and had never been declared as a gift.
...
Peskov told the business newspaper RBC that the watch was a wedding gift from his wife, Tatiana Navka, and that he received it on Saturday, the day of the wedding.
In any case, as Russia heads into recession, I don't think ordinary Russians are going to appreciate being told they will have to tighten their belts and make sacrifices by a man wearing a $600,000 watch on his wrist.

...
Actually, poll results released in Russian state media says:
Quote:
MOSCOW, August 3. /TASS/. Almost half of Russians believe that online information should be censored, 58% support complete Internet shutdown in the country in case of a national threat of a possibility of mass protests, and 73% believe that negative information about civil servants should not be posted online, says a report prepared by the Russian Center for Public Opinion Studies (VTsIOM)

Sorry, but I'm not here to do your bidding in terms of "justifying the Chechnya wars" — especially not in the simplistic black & white terms you seem to want "Chechnya wars" to be "justified." For the desired results, kindly pursue your agenda with someone more gullible and less aware of the many complexities of the Chechnya episode — particularly someone who knows nothing about the infighting among multiple warlords and similar rivalry among various other internal political and religious factions.
