Erdogan's 1,000 room palace

Guess he needs that many rooms to house all the refugees flooding into the country.

What an abomination. North Koreea would be proud of it.

People who put up this kind of buildings should be shot.

Nothing like building a multimillion dollar palace for yourself to inspire your masses to feel better about their own lives.

I am a bit disappointed about the palace.
In Erdogan's tradition, it should at least contain a shopping mall.

Re: Erdogan's 1,000 room palace

This guy is the shame of Turkey. An hypocrite, sneaky, arrogant man. He is destroying all the great ideas and plans build before him. He is on such a power trip, hear my words, when he dies, he will have done all needed to put himself into a God like Ataturk obsession.

The guy sees himself like a Pacha. Islamic Pacha swimming in corruption.

Sultan, Pacha, caliph, it's all about power trip to him.

Yes, but you know what, Turks are quite a resourceful people and they'll progress despite of any pacha, sultan or caliph on a power trip.
It takes time to get rid of those, unfortunately.

In the meantime, no kissing in public. And if you're a woman, don't laugh out too loud.

May be, but the costs of the palace are just a few percent of the monthly costs of the Turkish Armed Forces. The Palace however may allow the Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi (Repubican People Party) of Mustafa Kemal and Ismet Pasha to unite opposition forces and break the present structure of parliament

It is well possible that Mr Erdogan went a bit too far

Just this small bit of criticism can put one into prison in Turkey

People are comparing him wrongly with Mustafa Kemal Ataturk; Erdogan is nowhere close to him if anything he is representing everything Ataturk wanted to abolish. But you are right in saying that he has a devote/obsessed follower base much like Ataturk had and very happy to abuse this support for strengthening his hold and increasing his/his close followers' wealth

He sees himself above Pacha/Sultan .. maybe like a prophet? If I remember correctly, one small town bureaucrat made that remark to get his favors and the usually outspoken Erdogan did not criticize him

I do not agree.. Ergenekon and Balyoz cases, arrest of tens of innocent high ranking military officers, aftermath of Gezi protests, corruption charges, diplomatic blunders, his openly racist remarks towards first non-muslims and then towards the Alevites did not result in lowering his popularity.

You follow western media, I follow mostly anti-AKP Turkish media and we think all these developments would lower his popularity.. but his followers read the pro-government papers and watch soap operas on pro-government TV channels; if anything they are proud to have such a powerful world leader who is openly criticizing Israel and has finally resolved the biggest problem of the country by allowing turban everywhere

Exactly what I said.

Anyone watching Turkish news and soaps with a non Turkish eye will see how brain dead it's creating. Ergogan is anything from Ataturk and I wouldn't be surprised if he hates any ideas from him. But by forcing his population to worship him and praise him, they don't pay attention of what he is doing behind close doors.

I love Turkey and the culture and it makes me mad to see what is going on.

While he lives like a Pacha, he doesn't look and care for the kids in the streets, the people in needs and the lack of good education for the population. Better to keep them poor, hungry an uneducated so he can keep his power.
