| | Re: France: Charlie Hebdo Office shootings | Quote: | | | | | I see a lot of outrage from friends on FB and other platforms about the Charlie cartoons about the earthquake - in some cases, from the very same people who said "Je suis Charlie" back in the day. It works both ways, either you are Charlie or not, otherwise it's hypocrisy.
From my side, I think that ridiculing death and other tragedies is one of the ways that mankind has come up with to mentally and emotionally process tragedies. Think about the movie from Roberto Benigni "Life is Beautiful" - laughing at the jokes in the movie DOES NOT make the Holocaust less of a tragedy, nor does is diminish the pain and respect we bear to the victims. | | | | | Well Charlie have a point as always; a 6.2 quake should not flatten the whole area.
There was a 5.6 in USA yesterday and "Pawnee County of Oklahoma saw damage to three homes, with a resident of one of the houses suffering minor injuries"
Of course the Italian quake was 8 times stronger but still....

There is a selection of them here.
Of course if you prefer to use Anonymous as your source instead of actually reading Charlie then that is your choice

Yeah it seems you're right, it was just more islamist propoganda against Charlie Hedbo. Thanks for pointing that out |

Ich bin Charlie Hebdo: French satirical mag launches German edition Source
Law of unexpected side effects; the terror attacks doubled the sales of a niche magazine that had financial challenges.

The Charlie Hebdo shootings were three years ago today. Remember that march through the streets of Paris? It's rather ironic that in the meanwhile these leaders have done nothing to combat the spread of Islamic Terrorism whilst implementing laws to curb freedom of speech.
What a much of crummy hypocritical bastards they are. | The following 3 users would like to thank for this useful post:

I've just seen on the news that they - C.H. staff - work in a secret place now. It was presented as if it's normal. I don't know what to say, it doesn't seem like normal to me.

The photo looks more like a funeral for free speech.
So now, the world is in desperate need of more Trump tweets.

| | | | | Actually they are trying to curb hate speech and surely you have no objection to that?
Some people might be so foolish as to think that wiping out ISIS in Syria and Iraq might help to to combat the spread of Islamic Terrorism? Here you can educate yourself about the European fight against terrorism | This user would like to thank marton for this useful post:

Getting people up before a court because of nasty words written on Facebook isn't going to have any effect on Terrorism.
I'd rather the EU did more to prevent the thousands of ISIS fighters returning home than making nice websites.

Can you quote any terrorist incident by a returning ISIS fighter?

Can you quote any terrorist incident by a returning ISIS fighter? | | | | | Came you name any terrorist attack that was prevented by censorship?
Or to twist a metaphor that those who favour censorship seem to trot out a lot..
How often did the police prevent a stampede by arresting a guy before he could shout "fire" in a crowded theatre?

A French school teacher was beheaded in the middle of the street in Paris by a parent of a student of his. The reason?
The teacher showed the cartoons of Prophet Mohamed published in Charlie Hebdo during his history class.
Welcome to our new reality.

Beheading?! Gross! Extreme! Bizarre! Awful!
Showing cartoons of Prophet Muhammad, given all the suffering that was sparked by these very cartoons and/or the reaction to them (depending on perspective)? Foolish.

Foolish. | | | | | The cartoons were shown in a history lesson in the context of a discussion on 'free speech' (or, as is clear, the lack of it).
I think the message was clearly got across to the kids but sadly not in the way that the teacher intended.

Welcome to our new reality. | | | | | Why do you think one incident where a teacher is beheaded for showing a cartoon is or should be generalized into a "new reality?"
