Obvious conspiracy by Zionists and/or Islamophobes.

Portugese is the most widely spoken language in Switzerland outside the three official ones so surely that should be on the label too?
I think you missed his point.

Apparently the first police officers that arrived left the scene immediately...

Actually I think it is absolutely hysterical that a lot of the U.S. mothers on this forum were most indignant and horrified about a little piece of plastic in a special once-a-year three-kings bread (which due to it's shape, is probably not a choking hazard anyway) but I don't see them writing on this thread about how upsetting it was, and how shocked they are, to see what happened with the two year old shooting his mother with her gun.

To you lot - shame on you!
Maybe they haven't yet read this thread?

Anyways, I'd be curious to see the statistics to know how many accidental shootings there are in the US per year compared to how many times someone actually has to use their weapon to stop a violent crime (police excluded). My bet is that there are far more accidental shootings.

Lack of respect on the side of the magazine that knowingly riled Islamist fanatics although this is no excuse for the cowardly but deadly attack.

Dear Newspapers:

Could you please not write headlines like "Islamisten richten in Paris Massaker an 12 Tote". This has less to do with religion than with fanaticism of a belief. These were two narrow-minded fanatics who could not control their behaviour for whatever reasons. It's not fair towards all the other law-biding faithful and/or citizens of Islamic countries and causes more tension than needed.

Without looking at the attack objectively, one learns nothing. Please note that I did say it was no excuse for such an attack so stop just picking at phrases and ignoring context. That's what leads to misleading information and causes unnecessary grief.

Never-the-less it does seem hypocritical for the editor of Hebdo to have 24hr police protection whilst his journalists and staff are sitting ducks

FTFY. Sadly.

@ Idefix - Seems the first police were on bikes and strangely not armed with automatic weapons. I guess a normal city patrol and not an armed response unit. Would you have hung around in the circumstances?

It's called freedom of speech. Respect doesn't even enter into it.

Yeah, but you still said it so what you basically meant is they kind of did deserve it. 12 people have been murdered in cold blood because some invisible all powerful being may have had his feelings hurt by some pictures.

charlie l'hebdo, if you are familiar with it, is not any newspaper or journal- but a satirical take on current events. it is not made to inform you of news but to make you see things in another way, question current views and push the limits of thoughts/politics and the like. journals like this are crucial to freedom of speech, to promoting thought in general and to questioning which obviously, some people have a problem with. it is a dangerous and scary group of people who can murder anyone in this way- and blaming cartoons, political satire or anything else for this is ridiculous and dangerous...

They're only "sitting ducks" if we agree that an unusually high percentage of people of the Muslim faith don't have the emotional/intellectual maturity or self-restraint to deal with satire concerning their beliefs and that this was somehow doomed to happen. If that's the case, can we just agree that freedom of speech in relation to Islam effectively doesn't exist?

While you are at it ask them not to call the killers "Terrorists" - militants or gunmen will do.

Know what - call them "Religious fanatics"

So you would have preferred a headline olike "two mislead gun fanatics (clearly representing all other gun owners, who thus should be banned herewith) storm office of a newspaper that published comic mocking a religion to which, by sheer coincidence, the gunmen had affiliations"

That would have created the right level of objectivity.

Free speech is not absolute, in that same country Charlie Hebdo could not write 'the Holocaust was a myth' or they would be shut down and their editor thrown in jail... and rightly so because such nonsense would only feed antisemitism.

So either you have complete freedom to say and do as you please and to hell with the consequences (no matter how violent) or you choose a different way to make your point. Most other left wing magazines in France are able to lampoon militant Islam without having their offices firebombed (2011), staff threatened or this latest outrage.
