Gentlemen, I can assure you that this is not my cat.

AIRPORT staff in Paphos were left red faced last week after a copycat was unmasked by a British passenger.

The British resident of Cyprus was waiting for his luggage and his cat on his return from the UK, a local newspaper reported. After waiting for a long time, he finally received his suitcases, but there was no sign of his cat. Eventually, airport employees approached the man with smiles on their faces carrying his special pet carrier, with a very lively cat inside.

But as soon as the man saw the cat, he said it was not his. The airport staff insisted that the cat was in the cage and consequently had to be his, even pointing to the animal’s ID collar... (more at link)

This reminds me of a Denis Norden tale about a school guinea pig (or was it a hamster?) which belonged to a school and pupils took it home for weekends to look after.

The thing died while in someone's safekeeping, and Denis spun a marvellous story of parents afraid of having to break the news to a class of weeping kids buying a replacement. It turned out that the local pet shop owner knew what was happening and charged accordingly.

I'm sure it wouldn't have happened like that at Heathrow T5 ...

Is the surname of the article's author to be understood as in "taking the...."?

Hihihi - That could be one of the advantages of owning (or being owned) by a pedigree. Not too many Siamese or Persians running around airport terminals.

Actually it's quite disturbing. Imagine coming home with what will udoubtedly be a very upset feline. Wouldn't want to be the one trying to convince kitty not to eat the kids.

Dougal, I think I found your cat. I found it rummaging in the mulch in my garden. When bid a hale and hearty good morning, it came up to me and I discerned that it had a small barrell of Guinness around its sleek neck.

Needless to say, the cat will be returned - sans barrell :p
