Kadiza Sultana, one of the girls that ran off for a better life with IS appears to have been killed in an airstrike.

Re: More girls running off to join ISIS

Is a kid being brainwashed, then having second thoughts and being killed a cause for flippancy?

"believed to have been killed in an airstrike in Syria, apparently while planning to escape...Khanom told ITV in an interview recorded earlier that Sultana’s situation there had changed. “The way she used to communicate with me … The way she used to talk about things has totally changed … She’s scared of being there,” Khanom said. ...In March last year, the Metropolitan police commissioner, Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, said the teenagers could return home without fear of being prosecuted for terrorism, as long as no evidence emerged of them being engaged in violence."

Re: More girls running off to join ISIS

Basically these young recruits are cannon fodder😂 Their death rate is very high. The older ones send them in first to identify where the firepower is located.
The girls are expected to marry jihadists who have a high rate of STDs so their life expectancy is anyway not good due to the lack of good medical resources ☹️

What are the girls supposed to be? An advance on the 72 virgins?

My humble opinion...: Let them die, then prosecute the parents for dereliction and failing of parent duties.

Its basically this in a nutshell.

I envy all the perfect parents on this forum, with their perfect kids who've never done anything stupid like joining a gang, running away from home, stealing, getting pregnant etc..

They have every right to their moral superiority.

Castro,

I googled a bit to try and get some background. What I did find, aside from the coverage of their child's death, was a fair bit of coverage on how the police made mistakes in their handling of intelligence (Which is wrong). I was a bit surprised that I didn't find any indication that they were particularly active within their own community to help other families avoid what is for them, quite understandably, a tragedy.

Were it me, I would be outspoken as hell. Yes, I would be angry at the police, but I would also be outspoken against the other factors.

The perfect kid does not exist, joining a gang, running away, looking at porn, or smoking a joint, but this is on another level altogether, at least some form of mediation is in progress in even disfunctional families, here with this crop of darwinists all common sense is out of the window.

They have every right to their moral superiority.
But the girls must, at a minimum, have seen the videos of the brutal ways ISIS murders their helpless prisoners; if they support that then for me they are no longer within the categories of people I have any sympathy with.
Of course if they recognised they made a bad mistake and wanted to return then it is very sad they died; but it was all as a consequence of their choices.

"getting pregnant" is a mistake that probably took place during half an hour (or 5 minutes) without the objective of getting pregnant and is not really comparable to the commitment of travelling ca. 3,000 Km over several days to join a group of murderers (of course you might argue joining a gang is similar).

Erm no, there is of course a perfectly good chance they never saw the videos. Denial is a powerful thing, and the videos have to be searched for and watched, they aren't on autoplay for everyone when they open their PC. They could have easily chosen not to watch them.

As other's have said, you just can't make this comparison. When they ran off ISIS were constantly on the news with ever more gruesome ways of murdering people.

How can anyone blame the police for this? This lies completely with the parents alone and stretching it a little, the local Imam.

Loz,

Here is a link:

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/...police-apology

The crucial bit, w.r.t. police wrongdoing is:

Quote:
Police accept that they wrote letters to the parents saying their children had been friends with the pupil who had gone abroad and asking for permission to take formal statements. But instead of delivering the letters directly to the parents, police handed them on 5 February to the girls themselves, who hid them in their school textbooks in their bedrooms. The families only found the letters after the girls left on 17 February.
If this is a true representation of what happened then I would say Yes, the police definitely made a mistake in not contacting the parents directly, and I think any parent would be upset by this.

Have a look for some information about the families lawyer, Tasnime Akunjee. Rather than some spinnable media article, here is the man himself:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWx8KBdOY8U

Perhaps I am hearing dogwhistles in that admittedly old video.

What I have not heard, or seen, is anything even remotely close to any of the parents standing up in public and saying something even remotely close to: "A terrible thing has happened to us, and we send this message to members of our community: Protect your children from the ideological threat that ultimately cost our children their lives."

The parents who live with their children 24 hours a day, 365 days a year did not notice anything amiss and blamed the police for not sounding a warning

Should it not be the other way around with the parents contacting the police to ring warning bells

They were kids. Kids do stupid things, especially when fueled by naieve and misguided idealism.

Regardless of whether you sympathise or not, objectively you can understand how it can happen.

I am inclined to agree, but at the same time I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt. They wouldn't be the first parents to miss how serious a threat their children were exposed to was.

To lay the blame at the feet of the police strikes me as just plain wrong.
