At the time they left the girls were 15 years old, and for everyone it was
quite a shock that they had run away to Syria. Obviously someone from ISIS
persuaded them all to leave, and being young they saw it as a big adventure.

Muslim families are very strict with their children, they always need to know
exactly where and whom they are with. I don't think you can blame these
parents, as they really didn't know where their girls were.

Since then I think everyone has learned a lot, and a little sympathy wouldn't
be out of place.
