Turkey invaded 20 miles into Syria and recovered the human remains of an a very important man, Suleyman Shah, grandfather of the founder of the Ottoman Empire.
572 troops, 39 tanks, 57 armored vehicles and 100 other vehicles were involved, and the column reached the tomb shortly after midnight.“A religious ceremony was held for the transfer of the tomb remains, while other items of cultural significance were removed with similar care,” . “Our troops were safely removed from the area.” Finally, the Turkish flag was lowered, and the tomb and security station were destroyed to prevent any possible use by extremists.
That's a very impressive cortege!

"NATO member nation Turkey invades foreign territory", is probably a Russian headline today. And not for the first time, they'd be spot on.
This after Turkey had indiscriminately killed various Kurdish soldiers in northern Iraq under a massive cover up after the second Iraq ground war. Nothing like looking after your own interests and eradicating PKK groups under the guise of "peace-keeping". And NATO did nothing.
I for one would prefer a NATO without Turkish membership. If it wasn't for their rather beneficial geographical location (America's best location after they were kicked out of Iran), then I'm sure many other European nations would also feel more at ease without their medieval methods.

As long as the Bosphoros runs through Turkish territory, Turkey is untouchable.

Turkey intervened on Cyprus in 1974 as being one of the GUARANTEE POWERS of the TREATY OF ZURICH of 1960 after the Greek Cypriot officers had toppled President Archbishop Makarios III and declared to go for Enosis. The Turkish Sector of Cyprus was NOT made part of Turkey, but the Turks helped the Cypriot Turks to establish the TRNC Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus
