Delivery from UK - customs?

If I get a delivery from myprotein.co.uk which bases its warehouse in the UK, is the delivery than potentially opened and do I have to pay customs for it? (Delivery is worth about 140 CHF)

Yes, you have to pay import tax on anything that is over a total cost of about 60chf. There will be an invoice on the package so they will check that and bill you accordingly.

Re: Delivery from UK - customs?

So each delivery to CH is opened that is coming from abroad? Is that even feasible or do they do samples?

They don't have to open it. The sender has to put a declaration on the outside stating contents and value.

However, customs do not necessarily trust those declarations, and do open a significant number of parcels to check.

BTW NEXT has just decided to pay the tax for orders to Switzerland.

Interesting about Next... Is that for definite?

I'm having a fight with Swiss Post on a parcel sent by family, as they read the declaration sticker as saying 45 not 4 and tried to charge me a heap of tax 😕

That has certainly not been clarified as their statement is very ambiguous

Member New_Switzerland confirmed that s/he recently ordered from Next and good were delivered taxfree- since Next made their statement to that effect.

Maxiii, the reason the Customs do open a % of parcels is because (surprise, surprise) some people are not entirely honest when filling the declaration (saying stuff is worn personal clothing/objects, or putting lower value, etc, etc).

From there FAQ http://www.nextdirect.com/help/en/CH...x?ItemId=26585

Customs Fees

You will be responsible for assuring that any products you order comply with state and federal government import regulations.
It is like a politician:
Customs Fees?

When it rains you should use an umbrella otherwise you get wet. But during high wind you better wear a raincoat.

Their Terms and Conditions are more clear: http://ch.nextdirect.com/en/terms

Customs Fees For Non EU Countries

Please note that all shipments to destinations outside of the UK may be subject to import duties and taxes, which are levied by the importing country at the time the shipment arrives in your country. All applicable duties, fees and any additional charges for customs clearance are your, our customer’s, responsibility. Please refer to your customs department for guidance.

Re: Delivery from UK - customs?

Ah well, straight to the horse's mouth, as the info is usually more useful than that gathered on a Forum. Just phoned their customer service who.... haven't got a clue. So Senior Manager is due to phone back ... see how it goes.
