Federal invasion of Texas

Seems the Texas governor has ordered the Texas State Guard to monitor a Federal military exercise that some nut jobs believe is targeted to enforce martial law in Texas, take away people's weapons, &&& quote here.

Sub title - Republicans gone wild!!

Re: Federal invasion of Texas

I read about this the other day, unbelievable.
I love this quote:

“The people who came with an open mind I think got some useful information and I hope left with a higher comfort level,” Mr. Pape said. “The ones that came with their minds made up probably left with their minds made up.”

Pretty much sums up all conspiracy theorists rather nicely.

Re: Federal invasion of Texas

A nice opinion piece about it here:

http://www.npr.org/blogs/itsallpolit...obama-takeover

From the blog:
Quote:
...It's true that the paranoid worldview of right-wing militia types has remarkable stamina. But that's not news.

What is news is that there seem to be enough of them in Texas to influence the governor of the state to react — some might use the word pander — to them...

I think this is only news in the US - outside the US I think most people would assume the Texas governor is a right-wing militia type as a requirement to get voted in !

One slant I read from a particularly nutty nutjob was that Obama was preparing to disarm Texas prior to an Islamic invasion.

They were being very kind suggesting conspiracy theorists have much of a mind, or bothered to bring it with them

According to some of them, Obama will be arming street gangs, the Bloods and the Crips, as a Civilian National Security Force, as a guise for an upcoming Race War.
Savage: Obama may arm U.S. gangs for race war

The Ferguson and Baltimore riots are said to be just a portent of what is to come.

I wonder if it would help if the paranoid start smoking marijuana. Or if perhaps they already do.

Re: Federal invasion of Texas

The question is, how does one define "monitor".

By definition, I would think that what the US military does is secret and thus spectators are not welcome.

So this probably boils down to a State Guard reservist or two sitting in cars outside the security parameter and twiddling their thumbs.

So not a big thing really.

Is this a story being blown out of proportion, with the words "state guard" conjuring up some mass mobilizationseeking out the verge of military confrontation?

Considering this is a massive exercise and the US military has been giver permission to use both public and private land, it's not going to be particularly "secret".

This is what happens when Hollywood does not produce interesting movies. People get bored and their imaginations run amok.

I suspect some bipolar disorders are communicable through societies. There is plenty of evidence of it.

It's not going to be secret that they're there doing something. But you still can't walk in with your camera and notebook. It's secret in as far as they're not telling you precisely what's happening, and that non participants need to stay outside the perimiter.

The Texas State Guard consists of six Civil Affairs Regiments, two Air Wings, a Medical Brigade and a Maritime Regiment.
I hope they do stay outside the security perimeter; if they do not and a tank runs over a car full of State Guards then some nutjobs will seek revenge

Re: Federal invasion of Texas

how about the US military runs a difference exercise, which it can nickname "Project Normal Joe". instead of sending soldiers with guns and weapons to mix with the civilian crowd in anticipation of an overseas engagement, we would bring every single US soldier engaged overseas back to the US, dress them up in civilian clothes, and let them mix with the civilian crowd in anticipation of leading a normal life.

The exercise is about unconventional warfare, infiltration of enemy territory and blending in with civilian population. Residents will be advised to look out for and report unusual activity. That's kind of difficult to keep secret.

Texas will be "enemy territory". I wonder how big of a role that plays in the texan reaction.
