Because while you have British citizenship, decisions by the governent could affect you.

Not being a taxpayer is not a reason to be denied the vote. Are you suggesting pensioners and unemployed should be struck off the electoral register?

Cheers,
Nick

Pensioners and the unemployed are part of the system and should have a say in how its run. If you're living thousands of miles away, you probably don't even have a full enough grasp on the issues at hand. I would feel pretty miffed if people from foreign countries who only visited the country on their vacations started dictating how my local council should be spending its money.

As I'm also paying said council my due taxes why shouldn't I have say in how it spends MY money! I have as much right as people still based in the UK. Case in point: a housing development scheme is trying to be pushed through by the developers and will affect the area massively where our UK house is based. Should we not have a say in whether or not the council should approve the scheme? Of course we should, it'll affect us even if we're not there 365 days a year.
